3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Poured a very dark brown/black with an average sized light brown rocky head that was mostly diminishing and had fair lacing. The aroma started with a strong alcohol scent, then of burnt dark bread malts, a leathery yeast with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, molasses and dried friut (Plums I think). It tasted strong of alcohol and had a sweet-wine characteristic in the beginning then matured to a sweet-bitter flavor with hints of coffee and molasses with a touch of chocolate at the finish. Mouthfeel was medium to full in body and creamy yet oily in texture with a nice soft carbonation. Overall a nice stuout but a little to much of an alcohol tinge for me.

6y old bottle. Pitch black in the glass good head. A bit hard to smell, but a nice balanced sweet bitter tast. Roasted malts and chocolate. Like it. While warming the alcohol gets more in front.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
12oz bottle, 2008 vintage, purchased ca. 2010, don’t remember where. Pours a deep, dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is malty, licorice, coffee, chocolate. Heavy on the palate with creamy carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, toasty, coffee, licorice, raisin, a little boozy, maybe a hint of red wine, with a sweet, raisin finish. Still a little hot after 6 years, but still very nice.

Rich black color; Heavy slightly creamy body; Aroma of smoky sweet malt, rich dark fruit, chocolate, licorice, & alcohol; Flavor of roasted sweet malt, chocolate, molasses, dark fruit (notably plums), raisons, spice, and alcohol; Warm booze finish; Pretty complex; Overall, the alcohol can be a bit much at times - but still a very good brew.

Thanks cards04 for this. Dark cola type body and some brown head. Combo of barley wine and imp stout. Kind of boozy but well masked considering the abv. Probably the highest abv stout I’ve had. I think. Interesting beer. Be careful with this one.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2600th review! 12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled in 2010D. Pours dense pitch black color with a small dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, molasses, dark bread, raisin, prune, date, cherry, licorice, light char, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and dark fruit notes; with good strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, molasses, dark bread, brown sugar, raisin, prune, date, cherry, licorice, light char, and roasted earthiness. Light roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, dark bread, brown sugar, molasses, raisin, prune, date, cherry, licorice, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and dark fruit flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and very full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and slightly syrupy/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome imperial stout. All around great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and dark fruit flavors; and smooth to sip on slowly. This is one of the most dark fruit forward imperial stouts I have had, but it was still really well balanced. A highly enjoyable offering.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Served on nitro-tap into a mini pint at Al’s of Hampden.
A - Pours pitch black, with a few highlights of brown, with a small film of head leaving minimal lacing down the glass.
S - Could there be any more booze in this one? A bit of roasted chocolate malt, licorice, and dark chocolate help bring some type of balance to this one. More and more booze seems to come out as it all warms up.
T - Lots of dark roasted flavors up front giving way to a bit of malty sweetness in the middle. Finish is quite hot, lingering for a very long time. Most of the flavors are similar to the nose. The initial flavors help dull the booze a bit but it is still far too overpowering.
M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. The burn is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It seems to just keep getting hotter and hotter as the beer comes to room temp.
D - This one is a one and done. I like this for what it is but the huge amount of booze just overpowers everything. I struggled to drink this much.
