hopscotch (4433), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jan 14, 2004 This beer rocks!
Pours charcoal black. Small, creamy, beige head. The aroma is very burnt and vineous with notes of dark chocolate, buttermilk, charred wood and espresso. The alcohol isn't evident in the nose.
Lots of full-bodied flavor... warm alcohol, maple and chocolate syrup, dried plums and tawny port. Decently hopped, but not enough to balance out the entire field of deeply roasted malt within the bottle. Sticky, chewy, syrupy mouthfeel with lively carbonation.
Lengthy, bittersweet, burnt, alcoholic finish. Not as well balanced as 2003's 18.8% ABV version. Still, an excellent beer! Thanks for the bottle, cquiroga!
Hophead22 (132), Redlands, California, USA Jul 10, 2008 Wow, this is good. Dark fruits are all over the place in this one. Super dark, super flavor. The dog, again, liked ths one. Not overwhelming in the least. wetherel (976), Carlsbad, California, USA May 25, 2008 Tried from bottle with Atlanta ratebeer crew at 5 Seasons North tasting. Lots of smokey oxidation of the good kind (no cardboard). Sweet malty. Caramel and molasses flavors abound. Dark color (of course). Mellowed and easy to drink. Delicious. Cocacola like aroma notes. The best WWS I’ve ever had. Excellent. kp (6200), Woodstock, Georgia, USA May 25, 2008 Date: 05/22/2008
