The aroma was resinous vinous dark malt licorice and toffee. with a lingering vinous aftertaste. The potent flavor contained notes of dark malt resin toffee mild hop vinous and roasted malt. A wonderful best in class brew.

Taste port notes with meat, some vinous notes with oatmeal, some roasted barley malts, spicy, dark roasted herbs and dried fruits. There’s even a hint of something light citrus and lemon a like. Very rich flavours!
Aftertaste has also vinous notes with some grass and roasted barley malts.
Low to no carbo, soft light spicy mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture.
Deep, pretty complex and lovely vinous notes! Very nice!

Bottle as a gift from the generous Jim @The Anderson, Fortrose. It pours very dark brown, with a thin tan film. The nose is coffee, roasted malt, toffee, creaminess, touch of bitter chocolate, honey and some dark fruit. The taste is plum, prune, grape, jam, creaminess, roasted malt, toffee and sugary coffee, with a smooth finish. Full body, low carbonation and luscious mouth-feel. Smooth, well balanced and good level of complexity. Doesn’t drink anywhere near its percentage. Wish you could still get this in the UK!

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 brewersspot (97) - , California, USA - OCT 28, 2010
I had this beer a while back and from what I can remember I enjoyed it. I’ve had this at the pub/brewery so it was fresh.
Nothing special about it is popping into my head at the moment.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 snoot (286) - Anaheim, California, USA - AUG 15, 2010
Pours black as motor oil, minimal head that quickly vanished, never to be seen again. Boozy, dark fruit and coffee aromas. Dark chocolate and raisin flavors predominate, the alcohol is obviously there, but it’s not overpowering. Some carbonation in the mouthfeel, especially compared to the 23% 2002 (tasted side by side).

12oz bottle. I got this one in a trade a few years ago and I didn’t write down from who (so who ever you are, thank you!). Poured a dark, dark brown with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, dark fruits, toasty, and wood. Tastes of chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, molasses, brown sugar sweetness, and caramel. For 21%, well hidden. After shoveling nearly 30" of snow over 3+ hours, this hit the spot!
