4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 28, 2005Color is an orange glow. Smells like an orange meringue pie and has some cedar elements. Alcohol is very apparent, giving the barley wine a sharp twang. Some sour grapes and honeydew, along with spicy hops, round out the taste. Thanks to CaptainCougar for this fine treat.

Bottle. Rating #220. This was still pretty nice. It has lost something, but the sweet toffee is still there. (2591)

22oz bottle pours a mostly translucent, copper amber with two clumps of white head. Nose of toffee, orange, a little cardboard, brown sugar, caramel. Flavors of toffee apple, caramel chips, cookies, oxidized oranges. Medium bodied, sweet finish. The hops are totally gone from this 2005 bottle, but it is not bad.

2003 bottle shared by IrishBoy. Pours copper with no head and a fruity aroma. There is a sweet fruit and molasses flavor with a vinous finish. This barleywine has aged very nicely, with its originally well-defined characteristics melting together into a very pleasant mouthful.

Huge thanks to CaptainCougar for sharing this gem. Pours a slightly-murky caramel brown with a short off-white head that quickly recedes to a thin collar. Nose has plenty of malty richness and a nice complexity. There is a touch of fruit plus caramel, toffee, bread, and a general malty sweetness. Flavor is similar, though more focused on the malt sweetness and less integrated than the nose. Still quite nice. Medium body and sweet. Really glad to try this one.

transparent red-amber. Oteyj drain pours while saying "fuck this piece of oxidized shit." yes, oxidized, heavy stale toffee and cardboard, stinging sweetness, thin, hot. Yum.
