COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dogwood Stout is a dry, Irish stout. We use a combination of roasted barley, flaked barley and chocolate malt to create a complex, textured maltiness with hints of coffee and chocolate with a rich fullness of body. We leave it unfiltered to add to its complexity. Its deep, dark mysterious color is topped off by a robust creamy head. It too is naturally carbonated. Dogwood Stout won a Silver Medal Winner at the 1997 World Beer Championships and was named one of top two microbrews in Atlanta by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dogwood Stout is available in bottles and on tap anytime of the year.

2004 12 oz. bottle via trade with IrishBoy - This beer is probably passed its prime. Gonna give it a go anyways. Pours a thick, deep dark brown color with a small tan head. Very light spotty lacing. Has a dark roasted malt aroma. Has a light burnt malt flavor. Palate is very thin and dry. Oxidation is noticeable. Light to medium body. Would have been nice to try this beer a couple years ago. Still, I’m glad I had the opportunity to try it. Big thanks to Richard.

Thanks to my Dad (IrishBoy) for this beer. Looks are black with a thin mocha head. Aroma is like old perfume and cough syrup along with mollases and coffee. Taste is espresso, with dark chocolate, and the cough syrup is still here. Wish I could see the fresh v. aged to compare. If it didn’t have the cough syrup aspect it would be a 3.8-4.0 beer. Aged but didn’t show me much motivation to age a lower alcohol brew. Not bad by any means, but has just been going downhill for awhile I’m guessing.

UPDATED: APR 23, 2008 9/04/2006 Bottle from BigSilky’s first trade! Thanks! Nose is of coffee, cocoa, and a little molasses; opaque brown with cherry showing along the edges, a small tan head; flavor is primarily roasty coffee, body thin, and a bit of biterness still showing inthe finish although the bottle was obviously old (best before date 7/21/04). And I still have three more bottles! 7/4/8/3/15 3.7 4/23/2008 another bottle from the same batch; Nose of coffee and chocolate; black with a small cinnamon head; exceptionally smooth and unoxidized for such an old lower ABV Stout; flavor is coffee, chocolate, and a bit of peppery spiciness in the finish. Body a little thin but a very good beer! 8/3/8/3/16 3.8

Bottle shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry & tupalev - courtesy of tupalev. Deep brown colour with a small head. Aroma is mild, with notes of roast coffee and molasses. Body is thin, but suitable for the style. Flavour is nice, a bit sweet off the top, drying out nicely in the finish. We had no idea how old this was, but it seemed to hold up OK, and it proved to be a simple but enjoyable stout.

12oz bottle via trade with DocLock! - Thanks Jeff! - Pours black with a short creamy tan head that fades quickly to a ring and laces from there. Aromas of roasted malts and just a touch of coffee and molasses and a touch of vanilla. Flavor is roasty as well. Molasses, chocolate, and a touch of smoke and vanilla. Very earthy. Medium bodied, without much carbonation. Somewhat on the watery side.

Bottle shared with Blankboy, Hogtown Harry, and GregClow, courtesy of my in-laws recent trip to Myrtle Beach. Pitch black, no head. Aroma is sweet with some roast. Taste is very sweet, dry, with lots of black patent. Woody, slightly hoppy. Not a bad little stout! Very dry with hints of molasses. Probably a slightly old bottle but very enjoyable.
