3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 LilKem (1210) - Marietta, Ohio, USA - JUN 30, 2005
A bottle in a bar that said "best if tasted by 1/24/2004". haha, despite that, it was way impressive. it was very comparable to brooklyn black chocolate stout. it had a very sweet malty aroma, with some marshmellowy flavors and some dark chocolate roasts.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 21iceman40 (1732) - vienna, West Virginia, USA - JUN 29, 2005
Even though this was old, this was damn impressive stil. Almost completely black on the color with no head, prolly due to the age. Aroma was nice, a sweet chocolate brown sugar thing goin on with it. Very smooth body to this one, fairly light chocolates that are heavily smoked. If only they could have made this one after the abv laws changed they would have one seriously kick ass stout.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Walt (2448) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUN 22, 2005

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 3fourths (6215) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAY 25, 2005
Thanks to SpringLicker for this one. Poured into a snifter it was difficult to get a head formed... ended up with a small layer of medium brown colored soda pop bubbles. Nose of cold coffee and cola, flavor has a nice charred malt and milky flavor up front and over the middle, drying out at the finish with a pleasent roasted malted-milk-ball lingering flavor. Pretty damn good example of a dry stout. Texture is on the light side, but that’s not much of a detriment. Enjoyable, with the only problems being some lingering plastic and spoiled vegetable aromas, but not strong or foul enough to ruin the beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 richlikebeer (835) - Easton, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 28, 2005
thanks to captaincougar for the bottle, poured an opaque brown with some ruby highlights coming out of the bottle, ton of foamy tan head that faded down to light lacing. loads of chocolate armoa and flavor, along with hints of vanilla. a ton of carbonation take a little away from the mouthfeel, which is made a little tingly from all the fizz. a nice smooth flavor is behind all the fizz along with a coffee aftertaste. thanks tom.

I about shit my pants when I found this at Total Wine in Raleigh. Obsidian pour with medium tan head. Aroma is big roasty malt, with chocoff, some vanilla, and some soy sauce. Tastes roasty malty, with big chocoff. Smooth palate, very complex, dense, balanced, and tasty. I’ll be getting the last dregs of this on my way back to PA, along with any other Dogwood beers I find. The demise of Dogwood is one of the greatest travesties of the 21st century thus far.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20 kujo9 (1085) - North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA - MAR 16, 2005
12 oz bottle: Black, opaque w/ a non existant light beige . It wells up once it is swirled, but it doesn’t last. Chocolatey and caramel aroma dominates. Roast is secondary w/ hints of diacetyl. Lightly herbal hop w/ a slight milky aroma. Well balanced; chocolate malt and light roast at first followed by herbal hop. Hints of caramel w/ a dry finish w/ a roasty chocolate aftertaste. Lighter medium body, low carbonation, dry m/f. Nothing special but a good beer. It didn’t seem to show any age if it’s that old.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 jasonp (1556) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - FEB 23, 2005
Deep, deep black with a small light brown head. Nice roasty, hoppy aroma. Taste has notes of roasted malt, chocolate syrup, coffee and a very solid hop presence. Nice level of sweetness. Finish is slightly burnt with a hint of fruitiness. Mouthfeel is very full, round, thick and creamy on the palate with lively carbonation- just glorious. Not much lacing or head retention. Overall, an awesome stout.
