COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dogwood Stout is a dry, Irish stout. We use a combination of roasted barley, flaked barley and chocolate malt to create a complex, textured maltiness with hints of coffee and chocolate with a rich fullness of body. We leave it unfiltered to add to its complexity. Its deep, dark mysterious color is topped off by a robust creamy head. It too is naturally carbonated. Dogwood Stout won a Silver Medal Winner at the 1997 World Beer Championships and was named one of top two microbrews in Atlanta by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dogwood Stout is available in bottles and on tap anytime of the year.

Pours a dark black with highlights of ruby when held up to light. The smell started out with sweet berries.I sensed light malt, and after tasting,I smelled dark chocolate. The taste is of tart berries, chocolate, and coffee.Very light malt in the aftertaste. It has a light-medium body that is somewhat watery. This beer has a great taste and smell.Bottle had a best before date of 10/26/04 but still is damn good.

Pours out of a 12oz single a solid black, impervious even to direct light. It took an aggressive pour to get out even the meager off-white head it provided, what is there sticks firmly to the glass. Mocha and roasted coffee beans are heavy on the nose with a slight, vague fruitiness present as well. Smell is awesome. Mouthfeel is a bit lighter than I expected. Nice taste, sweet up front, roasty in the middle with light pangs of bitterness at the end. Very refreshing for a stout, almost pushes itself into "session" territory.

I haven’t found a Dogwood brew that don’t like, and their stout no exception. The first thing that strikes you about this beer is its wonderful coffee aroma. I’m not a huge coffee fan, but this brew had just the right amount of coffee aroma and flavor to where I could really enjoy it. Medium body, sort of light for stout, and black to the point it was not translucent. Overall, a very enjoyable ale that was crafted for maximum drinkability.
