This cloudy dark brown ale is full of licorice, nuts, cinnamon, bread, banana, and spices. Palate is luscious, flavors linger. Seems to lurk somewhere between Dubbel and Weizenbock. (thanks capt.cougar)

12 oz. bottle from TheBeerSommelier- thanks again, Matt! Pours a cloudy dark brown color with a small off-white ring for a head. Aroma of caramel and chocolate malts, molasses, brown sugar, dried berries, cardboard, and dust- yeah, some oxidation, but not too bad. Flavor of just barely smoked wood, caramel malts, molasses, brown sugar, dried fruits, and peat. Drinks a lot like a Scotch ale, actually. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation. These Dogwood beers are holding up all right after all these years, not that I’d sit on them any longer.

bottle at dak’s 1/2/11. dark brown pour with a small tannish off white head. smells like whiskey and dried fruit... razz cherries, barrel-y spices and brown sugar. the flavor is the same along with a touch of ashiness on the finish. it is a little flat but otherwise kinda neat-o that it’s held up. 7/4/7/3/15

Bottle pours deep brown with a khaki head. Aroma shows notes of bourbon soaked razzcherries and a touch of vanilla. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of brown sugar and plum. Overall body is moderate and finishes with some nice warming booziness.

Pours dark brown with a small head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, fruit, and roasty malt. Flavor is the same as the aroma with a hint of hops on the finish. Good.

Bottle from matt (TBS) Poured into a snifter, really dark brown color almost black. Thin head that faded quickly. Nice nose of chocolate. Taste is faded fruits. Light brown sugar. Lacking carbonation, due to age? Far from good but not bad at all. Thanks matt

Bottle shared by kp (and Jordan, the brewer of the beer). Pours a dark hazy cola brown with a huge tan head that lingered for quite a while but left only hints of lacing. The aroma as very sweet with some caramel malts and fruits, though there is a hint of sourness coming out as well (I suspect from oxidation, not by design). The taste had some brown sugar sweetness, Belgian yeast and some vanilla wood presence. The mouthfeel was surprisingly active for the age of the beer with lots of carbonation, maybe a little too much. Despite some signs of oxidation, this was a pretty decent beer.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with TheBeerCellar. Pours an opaque cola color with a thin tan head that quickly disappeared and left no lace at all. The aroma was rich malt, brown sugar, and light soy sauce. The flavor was much more heavily influenced by the soy sauce flavor with malt and molasses also present. Very effervescent and tingly on the tongue. I would have liked to have tried this one fresh.

Bottle courtesy of dorwart. Pours brown with a thin tan head. Smells of cherries, cognac, caramel, spices, earthy. Tastes of spice, some brown sugar, some caramel, hints of warming alcohol, elements of toffee and molasses. Mouthfeel is tingly and woody. Finish yields some hints of raisins and figs. This tastes like a nicely aged old ale.
