3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From a growler. The furthest thing from a Belgian Ale I can think of. Pours a reddish brown with a tall foamy tan head. Nose is spicy and slightly mixed with caramel and hops. The taste is more of the same except the hops come out moreso than the rest, to me. There is a floral taste mixed in with whatever sweetness the brewer intended (maybe caramel or brown sugar). It finishes with a little of the sweetness but leaves a slight flowery aftertaste. Not too bad, but I had hoped for better.

Dark maroon with scant light tan head. Malty aroma and flavor, maybe with a hint of spice. Slightly bitter finish. Decent enough.

Well done Belgian Brown Ale, that I often enjoy on draught at the brewpub at Old Dominion. You can also find this beer as the house brew at the Tuskarora Mill in Leesburg, VA as Tuskie Ale. Pours to a beautiful, bright, deep chestnut to brown color, with a nice tan head, and a good carbonation. The nose is excellent, with lots of good sweet, carmel, and nutty malt, paired with estery and ripe fruit aroma, and earthy yeast aroma. The palate is rich and slightly slick on the tongue, with good sweet malt, caramel, and nut flavor. This is paired with some good, estery fruit, and hints of earth. This beer finishes with more of those flavors up front, then ends slightly sweet. Nice beer with good malty and estery aromas and flavor. Matches well with a number of dishes, and its a nice beer to fill your 2 liter growler to go with.

I had this on tap at the Old Dominion brewpub. Its came out a deep brown color with a slight beige head that left little in the way of lacing. The smell was of sweet fruit and caramel malt. The taste is very similar with sweet caramel malt being most noticeable and dark fruits also having a strong presence. There were definitely root beer like qualities that were in the taste and smell that made it an interesting beer. Mouthfeel was medium with a creamy texture. This was definitely drinkable as the lighter than normal body for the style allows this to go down much quicker. Not the best dubbel but an interesting twist that is solid.

Nice, brown color and nutty aroma. The brown ale characteristics stood out more than belgian beer characteristics. Some maltiness. Decent beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rich bronze/brown colour. Well structured aroma with light malt, subtle hop and fruit (apricot). Similar flavours with candy sugar notes becoming apparent. Mellow, but not flabby, mouthfeel. Rather pleasant, but hardly Belgian in style, I’d say. On tap at the Dominion brewery.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Spicy aroma, plenty of clove, some malt and toffee. Brown color, thin tan head. Earthy and spicy flavor, decent maltiness, but less than expected. Medium body. A spicy, slightly malty Belgian style beer. Lacks the fruitiness and complexity I expect from a good Belgian.

Pours dark ruby with a medium-sized head. Sweet aroma. Good flavor of spices, with a very good aftertaste. Not incredible, but a decent Belgian.

Nice brown color. Tannish head. Spiced aroma, sweet, and a little malty. A different type of Belgian. Caramel and hops stick out in the flavor, with some different spices mixed in. Pretty decent! On tap at the Brew Pub in Ashburn, VA.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very slight belgian qualities... more of an english style ale... slight belgian yeast character, subdued hops... nothing outstanding
