COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The combination of a flavorful, creamy stout (black) and an aromatic ale (tan) makes a delicious drink. Old Dominion Black and Tan has good body and a pleasant finish. We mix our Dominion Ale with Dominion Stout (two parts ale to one part stout) to create an authentic Black and Tan.

Retired when the Dominion Stout was discontinued in early 2004.

A sweet Black & Tan with roasted malt flavor and slight bitter aftertaste. Drinkable beer for "the masses". It's great to know the Richmond area has many local breweries giving choices its beer drinkers.

Dark red, no head whatsoever. Not much nose at all, a bit of roast, but little going on. Flavorwise, has good bitterness, coffee roast flavors. Very drinkable, not heavy. Not a whole lot going on, but very quaffable.

Crystal clear ruby brew. Medium-sized, khaki-colored, frothy head. Weeping lacework. The aroma is of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and caramel. Well-balanced with dark chocolate, caramel and coffee flavors dominating. Bitter and tangy hops. Medium-bodied with a fizzy mouthfeel. Short, crisp, clean finish. A tad thin, but very drinkable.

Ummm, I guess this one is aimed at the masses. Not too good. They use their house Ale and Stout which are just OK. Nothing like a "real" black and tan from a tap. Flavors are very muddled and confused. Beer aren't for mixing.

Bottled on date: 19 AUG 2002. Tasted on 04 JUNE 2003. Stale beyond words. Cardboard aromas along with rotting vegetables. No hops aromas at all. Poured out a weak brownish color, with no head. Nasty, just plain nasty. A certified drain pour.

The color is definitely on the tanner side, with a dark, clear, reddish brown pour and a thin, off-white head. Not a lot of aroma, I only detect a faint roasted malt smell. The flavor leans toward the stout with some roasted bitterness and a slight burnt flavor in the finish. Overall, not bad, but a little light in flavor and aroma.

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2003 Yup, this just like Dominion Ale mixed with Dominion Stout, which is to say it is classic Bass/Guinness in character. It would have been better if they had gone the lager route however to make it less dense and filling.
