A deep red beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, and oatmeal, leading to a dry roasted end.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 argo0 (9226) - Washington DC, USA - JUN 13, 2002
Good head atop deep red brown body. Slight sweetness and mild roastiness, but this beer loses the strengths of the two beers that combine to make it. Pretty disappointing.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 hopscotch (7529) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 19, 2003
Crystal clear ruby brew. Medium-sized, khaki-colored, frothy head. Weeping lacework.
The aroma is of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and caramel.
Well-balanced with dark chocolate, caramel and coffee flavors dominating. Bitter and tangy hops. Medium-bodied with a fizzy mouthfeel. Short, crisp, clean finish. A tad thin, but very drinkable.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 22, 2004
Chestnut brown colour, with a reddish tinge. Some subtle roasty notes in the aroma, but not much else. Some caramel, chocolate and coffee in the flavour but, again, not very pronounced. Quite dry. Like many of the Dominion beers I tried, this is decent stuff, but fails to really excite. I had this in November 2004, so Im not sure that it could have been discontinued early in the year. On tap at the Dominion brewery.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 CaptainCougar (6834) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAR 11, 2007
On tap at the brewpub on 7/16/06: Pours a clear dark mahogany with a nicely-lacing off-white head. Aroma has a nice light toasty caramel sweetness with a touch of piny hoppiness. Body starts with a pleasant earthy sweet caramel maltiness, nicely-balanced with an earthy, mildly bitter hoppiness and toasty cookie dough flavor.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DocLock (5970) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 15, 2004
Pours dark brown, with good tan head. Aroma of malt, slight chocolate, hops, and fruit. Tastes roasty, slightly sweet, with some chocolate, hops, and citrus at the finish. Decent mouthfeel. Im not a huge fan of mixed B&Ts. I prefer the segregated ones, just like I prefer my public schools (just kidding Jesse).
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BückDich (5468) - McCall, Idaho, USA - OCT 3, 2006
Draught at Old Dominion for breakfast - RBSG DC 06
Brown/black, light head and lacing. Nose of light hop, plenty of roast and sweet malt. Not too exciting. Light vanilla and grass maybe. The finish is moderate.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Travlr (5383) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - AUG 16, 2009
Very dark maroon, 6 bubble head, yet very effervescent. Aroma of roasted coffee. Very thin. Not complex. I had to taste it 3 times before I could remember it enough to write down my impression.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 jonas (4590) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - NOV 2, 2002
Very black. Sweet coffeeish palate. Could use more body, a bit watery.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheBeerGod (4130) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - JUL 25, 2002
UPDATED: JUL 15, 2003 Had this at Dulles before my trip to Germany. Check that, I had MANY of these before my trip to Germany. Pitch black in color. Coffee-ish tones with a slight caramel scent along with some bitterness. Finishes with a bit of a bitter aftertaste. Good beer. ***Re-rate: Not as great as I remember. I'm sure my more matured sense of taste has a lot to do with this. Seems more average now.
