COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Don’t be fooled by Candi’s golden appearance. This Belgian Tripel may taste of sugar and spice, but her beguiling introduction is far from nice, flirting with a covert 9.5% ABV. Saaz and Halltertau hops provide a clean, floral aroma with minimal hop bitterness and the soft sweetness of apricot and pear lingers nicely against a dry finish.

Draft at Raiilroad. Pours hazy gold with off-white head. Nose was funky yeasty malt, hopcitrus, Tastes somewhat sweet, with orange marmalade flavor, hops, citrus, mild funk, yeast, and a sweet finish.

Pours attractive hazy apricot with small white head that goes fast but leaves some nice skim. Nose is sweet malts, yeast and honey. Initial flavor is off, with light herbs combining with candi sugar and alcohol to create almost medicinal effect. That improves notably as it warms, with cereal and caramel notes coming to fore, supported by nutmeg and hints of pears and white grapes. Body is medium but very soft, adding to the overall sweet impression. Close to room temperature, the alcohol shows up again along with medicinal herbs. So it has a decided temperature range where it shows well, not too cold or too warm. Lives up, or down to the name. A nice change of pace, but there are better tripels for daily drinking.

Disappointing overall. Pots a golden color with short lived white head. Aroma is sweet and yeasty, slight funkiness. Thin watery body, not very satisfying. Taste is follows aroma. Nothing more worth noting.

Paging Pump Clip Parade... 355ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours clear golden with a short-lived thin white head. Aromas of solvents, Belgian yeast esters, the inside of those cheap plimsolls you get from the open market in a northern English. town. Taste is white sugar, almonds. So sugared almonds then. Light sweet, cloying finish. All of the bad parts of the style, plus a shit label. Mind you, they did call it Candi, so that’s perhaps fair warning.

Nice sweet Belgian aroma, with that tingle that covers your mouth as it fills it. Then it hangs on the palate with a very light bitterness and then settles quickly, leaving a slight dryness and fruity feel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. Pale golden coloured with slight haze and a rapidly disappearing white head. It has a spicy, warming fruit and candi flavour followed by slight sugary notes and pineapple and toffee on the finish. Pretty good, but a bit too light in the flavour considering the massive ABV.

Draft at Madrone’s in Frederick, MD served in a pint glass; deep golden color with white head. Aroma notes of malt sweetness, some honey, Belgian yeast notes and lightly fruity. Taste adds some caramel, malt sweetness, candy sugar, lightly herbal and some alcohol warmth. Medium-heavy body, low-moderate carbonation, soft with sweet finish. Alright enough tripel, something named candi is going to be sweet.
