3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle with a bottling date of 2/18/13 so this is very fresh. This is listed as having an abv of 10.2% here but the back of the bottle says 9.0%. Anyway, it pours a light orange/amber with a slight haze and lots of head. The smell is not typical for a DIPA and is predominantly a candied sweetness, caramel malt and alcohol. Despite this beer being very fresh, and some of the reviews mentioning hops, I am not noticing much of a hop presence at all in the aroma. The taste is bitter but there is also a sweetness there. I would prefer if it wasn’t as sweet but at least it isn’t cloying. The body is medium and the finish is dry. The alcohol is also hidden very well. Closer to a barleywine than a DIPA.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour from a 12oz bottle. Amber brew with dense white head. Aroma of resin, pine, a little aromatic woodiness. Taste is sweet malt at the start, resin in the middle, still sweet, a piney sweet resinous finish with lingering bitter. Sweet and wedding to raw bitter with out agility ... kind of an old-school American DIPA.
