COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“This is a full-bodied American style double IPA brewed with five styles of malts and four different hops. This deep copper colored ale will be served unfiltered to maximize flavor and also dry hopped during the secondary fermentation to ensure a gracious hop aroma. Cheers from us to you and may you enjoy it with friends.

22oz bottled in July 2012: pours a clear deep orange bronze with a stringy-lacing white head. Has a rich sweet caramel toffee nose with a healthy dose of citrusy hops. Starts with lots of thick syrupy toasty caramel sweetness with lots of resiny hop bitterness and a touch of light fruity complexity before a slightly drier and warming bittersweet finish. This is definitely more of an American-style barley wine than a double IPA, but a pretty decent one at that.

Bottled on 04/17/13, consumed here on 05/16/13 - but mine’s 9% abv. And a damn screw top. Nose is bountifully fruity, juicy, even leaning in toward tropical fruit, from citrus through mango. Deep orange-golden body with an off-white head. Taste is sweet, filled with hop juice, mild to medium bitterness, but as has seemingly become the trend, these doubles have far too much sweetness and too little bitterness compared to even their pale ale brethren. Creamy, heavily floral smooth medium body, again, a lot of oily hop contribution, but flabby weak malt and somewhat too-strong booze shining through. Pleasant enough, and clean.

Orange color with a white head. Aroma is sweet pink grapefruit, and taste is the same, with slight alcohol bitterness and pleasant, pithy hop bitterness. Not really any vegetal dry-hop notes to speak of. $3/12oz

Cloudy bronze appearance with a large, off white head and very good lacing. Understated resinous hop aroma. A sweet, malty start before the hops take over mid palate and dominate in the aftertaste. Medium to full bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel with a long lasting finish. ABV is deceptive; noticable at first, but a lot stronger as the glow fades

Draft. Poured copper color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Medium complex hop aroma. Medium to full body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy smooth bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This is a solid beer.

Appearance: Pours amber gold with a dense retaining white cap atop. Visible rising carbonarion when looking at the body.

Aroma: Very citrusy and when you get in closer, notes of pine as well. A touch bready as well.

Taste: Toasty malt followed by a generius mouthful of bitter piny hops and juicy citrus hops. Has a nice tart twang from it. A little honey dew rind, finishes earthy with decent duration. Pretty dry.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied, a little rough, astringency.

Overall: A surprisingly awesome west coast style Double IPA from Deleware!

gpekar (450) - Maryland, USA - APR 27, 2013
Poured a slightly hazy golden amber with a 1 inch creamy beige head. There were lots of carbonation bubbles rising up in the glass. The aroma was nice with citrus, apricot and some pine. The beer had a slightly thick texture and a very strong, grapefruit rind hops bitterness initially. There is a good amount of roasted malt giving a bit of a sticky, sweet flavor to cut through the hops. There is a bit of pine resin flavor coming out towards the finish along with a nice hops bitterness that last well into the finish.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Dark orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit and wet grass. Tastes of tangerine and grapefruit rind, pineapple, and a slight detection of lemon zest with a heavy malt profile for a DIPA. Moderate alcohol warming. Proof that even a decent IPA or DIPA most of the time is still a pretty good beer.

Bottle. Pours hazy copper with a small white head, solid lacing, plenty of floaties. The aroma is a mix of pine cone and big citrus. The taste is dry bitter, some light citrus, more bitterness of long duration.

Pailhead (3859) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - APR 21, 2013
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate sweet citrus, lighter grapefruit, caramel, toffee, fruit, and a hint of alcohol. It pours a mostly transparent golden-orange with a good amount of fine sediment. It has a two finger orange-tinged off-white head that has good retention and leaves behind a lot of sticky webbing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate toffee, lighter caramel, and some sweet fruitiness. The finish has moderate grapefruit, pine, and some faint alcohol. It’s medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Overall, it’s a highly hopped beer that blurs the line between an IIPA and a Barley Wine.
