Dominion Lager is brewed using four types of malted barley: Two-Row Pale Brewer’s malt, Munich, Carapils, and Caramel. The bittering hops are Perle and Hallertau from the Yakima Valley in Washington State. The aromatic hops are domestic Tettnang, German Hallertau Hersbrucker, and Czech Saaz. This combination of malt and hops, along with a classic lager yeast from Germany, and the long, low-temperature lagering process results in a mild, smooth, flavorful, complex beer that is a delight to drink.

I highly recommend this beer. Very smooth and drinkable. One of the better beers I have tasted.

Medium gold color. Small head. Aroma is malty and slightly sweet. A medium bodied dortmunder/helles. Malts are mild, slightly sweet and a touch fruity. Hops are mild as well. Spicy and citrusy, but not very bitter. This is a very well balanced beer. It smooth as silk and very clean tasting. Nice ‘lager’. Excellent gateway beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

It's a good beer. Not a fan favorite at the VFW but most of those guys drink whiskey.

Smooth and refreshing, yet still lots of flavor. Almost a sweet caramel taste to it. Makes me proud to be from Virginia.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2003 Gold in colour, mild in smell...strong taste-more like a nice ale! In fact, I prefer this beer over the Dominion Ale! Re-rate: Golden body with a very dense, fluffy white head. Very hoppy aroma, dry-hopped with Saaz. Malty taste, perfectly mixed with nice hops. A great beer...I had this on draught at the brewery tour. Tasted at the Dominion Brewery in Ashburn, Virginia on 23-August-2003.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2007 Bottle... I’ve tasted this beer at several parties and bars. Nothing kills a group buzz like a guy scribbling in a notebook. This used to be one of my favorite stand-bys. This brew really reminds me of a Vienna style lager.

Deep golden colour with a white head. Failry crisp. A dortmunder with tendencies towards a pilsener. A hint of caramel as well. I like it. It’s not incredie, but well made and easy to drink.

Nice tan color with a wispy, white head that doesn’t stick around. Aroma leaves a little to be desired - not bad, but not very noticable at all. Just lightly malty and imperceptable hops. The body on this is quite good - thick, yet clean. Nice caramel flavors with a clean, mildly hoppy finish. Very good, and a macroswilling friend was also able to enjoy this with me.

Magnificently put together! Its weakness, if there is one at all, is in the aroma department - I just don’t detect all that much there, despite the addition of Saaz (which should be pretty easy to notice). But I’m quibbling. This is otherwise the best Dort/Helles I’ve had and stands as a testament to the craft lager-brewer’s art. Crisp and well-carbed with a full-body lager taste.
