Medium gold color. Small head. Aroma is malty and slightly sweet. A medium bodied dortmunder/helles. Malts are mild, slightly sweet and a touch fruity. Hops are mild as well. Spicy and citrusy, but not very bitter. This is a very well balanced beer. It smooth as silk and very clean tasting. Nice ‘lager’. Excellent gateway beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Very tasty, nice mouthfeel. A solid lager. Great with pizza.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2005 My appreciation of this one has grown over time. Pretty bright gold. Nose lightly hoppy, biscuity and toasty malts. Flavor very crisp, light lemony hint, plenty of malts. Really nice stuff.

(bottled 5/9/2) This former GABF gold medal winner has always been a favorite of mine. Nice golden color with a thin white head. The palate is malt driven with the hops coming on later. The body of the beer is medium. I find this beer to be very good and subtlety complex.

Good malt and slightly hop floral nose. Robust and clean, very drinkable. crisp as a lager should be.

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2005 Excellent lager, one of the best I’ve had. Pours clear gold with a thick white head. Grassy, hoppy malty aroma with a hint of sourness. Taste is moderately sweet and tart with plenty of malt, pilsner/euro hops, grain, citrus/lemon qualities and some pleasant diacetyl/butter. Mouthfeel is very full, round and smooth on the palate with moderatle carbonation. Great head retention. Clean, robust and satisfying. An awesome beer from a pretty-much neglected style in the US.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2003 RERATE: I am having my second one and I don't think I gave this beer justice. It is just a fantasic lager.
Forms a large white head with lacing in a not so clean glass. A nice and crisp taste that is soft in front and just a little weak in the back. One of my new favorite lagers.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2005 Drank this on tap till the sun came up(NYE 2003 into 2004).A nice refreshing lager that many can enjoy.Smells nice and malty w/ some fresh hops.The taste is pretty crisp w/a decent hop tingle/some fresh munich bread in there,some yeastiness.Great economical lager that didn’t get old through some 8 hours of sluggin’.Happy new years. Great economicly in 12 pk bottles(9.99) at Ronnie’s. Give it a good hard pour to kill that fizziness,nice spicy hops,18.99 a case. Heady lager friends. Germany would be pleased, to be stuck with this in America.

Very good lager. Malty nose and taste with just a hint of hops, not too overpowering. Good medium body and nice head. An outstanding effort in a neglected style, at least for American micros.

This gets high marks for being a surprise beer. I didn't expect such a deep, golden appearance or such good lacing. I didn't expect the scent. I didn't expect such a full mouthfeel. I didn't expect an adjunct-less lager with a good hop flavor and a sweet, sweet finish.
Very drinkable and highly recommended for its taste:price ratio. very cheap, great price, equals an everyday drinking beer. Good stuff
