COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We have just solved a brewery mystery (and it is delicious). We wondered what would happen if we put 2004 Dominion Millennium in oak barrels that had bourbon in them for five years. Three months later we had Oak Barrel Millennium. Something special, we think. Ruby-red color with a wide range of complex flavors. Malt and sherry predominate.

Beautiful hazy ruby color with a very small beige head. The aroma was full of bourbon (not my favorite aroma in beer) and had some apple/grape tones as well. The flavor was absolutely perfect...slight bourbon, tons of vanilla, grapes, oak, and just a slight burnt/roasted tone. The feel was rather smooth, not syrupy, but slightly thick...semi-wet finish. Wonderful Barley wine. Thanks Goldtwins!

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2004 12oz bottle purchased at Dominion. Simply delicious. Pours a beautiful deep reddish amber with a small dissapating head. Aroma and taste is of amaretto, bourbon, vanilla, caramel, whiskey, brown sugar, some cherry, tons of malt and hops, dark fruit, wood and smoke. VERY complex-there’s a lot going on here. Pretty sweet as you would expect from a barley wine. Has that great warming alcohol finish. Mouthfeel is very full, round and creamy. Extremely delicious and drinkable, a world class barleywine. Highly recommended.

Pours a pure clear copper amber with a medium sized and well lacing cream colored head. Aroma of sweet caramel malts, some fresh hops, and plenty of bourbon oak. Starts with a pleasant and not overpowering sweetness, turning more bitter, then finishing somewhat warming, but still hiding its alcohol well and leaving a lingering, smooth and enjoyable bourbon oak flavor. A very tasty brew and better than the original Millennium. Thanks to jeffc666 for this gem!

Deep reddish- amber, thin wispy white head. Crazy nose of coconut, pineapple, caramel, vanilla, wood, and bourbon. Malty bourbon sweetness is predominate, but a small blast of hops keeps it from the cloying level. Makes for a nice balance. Full bodied, fizzy carbonation, dry, woodsy, alcohol finish. This is good stuff for sure. Thanks Jeff for grabbing me a few bottles. I certainly hope Dominion continues down this creativity path....

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2004 Clear amber color without any head what so ever. The aroma was mostly caramel, with some bourbon. The taste is what I found really interesting. Yeah, its a barleywine, but tasted more like a weak bourbon aged on fresh barrels without any smokiness. Light flavor of rock candy. Kind of eerie that it was like liquor without complexity. I would think this will be something in time, but it is not ready just yet.

Pours amber brown, with very little head. Aroma is bourbon and alcohol. Bourbon really jumps out at you in the taste. Other tastes includes sweet malt, brown sugar, and some bitter hops towards the end. The alcohol reallly shows up as you swallow. Aftertaste is dry, with some oak as well. A rather interesting beer. I think I’ll age some a while.

UPDATED: AUG 3, 2004 Bottled. Pours a ruby brown with a small tanned head. Aroma is sticky sweet with huge wafts of oak and alcohol. Faint malt and some notes of brown sugar. Flavor is also very sweet with more alcohol, wood, some bourbon, sugar, sweetened malt, and perhaps bubblegum. Palate has a nice alcohol induced warming feel to it. There’s some slight sting to it but not as much as I thought there would be. I would have liked this to be thicker and more chewy than it is, but it’s perfect otherwise. Finish is a nice long drawn out alcohol and wood flavor. The wood really comes through during the finish. Damn good beer! Hopefully this will become a more regular beer and not just a limited edition brew.

Pours burnt red with minimal head. Aroma is of stinging alcohol and whiskey backed by sticky sweet malt. Flavor is sticky sweet candylike maltyness, wood, whiskey, smoke, and alcohol. Long changing finish. If the alcoholic sting rounds out with aging this will be a very nice vintage barleywine. Compared side by side with the non barrel aged: The standard version has more head. The Barrel aged version has a sharper alcoholic sting in the aroma and the flavor. The flavor of the barrel aged version is richer in a smokey, woody type of way.

Pours a clear mahogany color with virtually no head. Some caramel, a hint of oak, and definite whiskey from this. Strong malt flavor, hops, alcohol, and that dry whiskey aftertaste leaves me imressed. Full-bodied. Very unique and different from the regular millenium. Bought this 12oz bottle from the brewery itself.

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2007 Bottle... This beer rocks!... opaque, deep amber ale with a small, creamy white head. The nose is of oak, bourbon, caramel, pineapple, coconut, vanilla and a huge dose of tropical fruit punch. The flavor is malty and bourbony with a nice dose of hops and alcohol for balance. Full-bodied with a creamy, alcoholic mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Lengthy, grassy, alcoholic finish. World class effort from the good folks in the Commonwealth!
