COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We have just solved a brewery mystery (and it is delicious). We wondered what would happen if we put 2004 Dominion Millennium in oak barrels that had bourbon in them for five years. Three months later we had Oak Barrel Millennium. Something special, we think. Ruby-red color with a wide range of complex flavors. Malt and sherry predominate.

(July 2004 bottle; Thanks Eric!!)

The Lure:
Earthy maple syrup, caramel and vanilla engulf a few round cherries. Spicy alcohol fumes blend admirably well with some dessert herbs.

The Festivities:
Lip-smacking maple syrup/sherry sweetness carrying some of the bark it was extracted from. An alcohol splash cools down the heavy yet well-balanced hops, as caramel and oranges give it a more traditional barley wine signature. A great barrel-aging job.

Transcendence:
In respect and amazement, a patient woodsman keenly notices his slowly emerging target. Its going to make a splendid photograph.

Bottle from 17Nov2006 that I just got from Matt Capone. Pours a ruby red to slight burnt orange with some head. Nose is caramel, stove top hard candy, vanilla and toffee. first sip is similar but not quite as intense but still plesant. finish is sweet malty and clean with fruity aldehydes.

Pours hazy tan into a snifter, small head. Looks like sherry. Aromas are toffee, vanilla and cherry. Taste is wood, bourbon, vanilla, cherry, some toffee, and bitter hoppiness that is muted on the finish. Not nearly as sweet as I was expecting, and the booze is not real pronounced or hot. Hits all the right BW notes, and the oaky vanilla really rounds this one out. My favorite BW so far...

From a 12 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a cloudy amber with a thin tan head. Vanilla laced oak aromas dominate the nose. Caramel, more vanilla and toffee blend into a delicious beer. Warming alcohol finish. Nice.

355mL 2006 Ed thanks to ryan! Clear tea amber pour with weak head. Collar of white foam. Nose is a bit oxidized- minty, oranges, caramel, mild bourbon, hints of mold and mushroom. Pretty solid older Barleywine nose. Taste is minty, juicy, a bit sweet, mild paper. Not too boozy. Not too osprey. Small lemon tartness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2009 bottling. Pours reddish tan into a snifter with no head. The aging has helped, too, I am sure. Excellent!

12 oz bottle served in a tulip. Pour is a ruby river water with one finger of off-white head; the head is nice, but dissipates quickly and leaves only the modest show of lacing. Nose is oak beams, tobacco, barn, dust, hay, burnt caramel, and a very syrupy malt. Taste is a clone of this nose. WoW!!! The woody, sweet earth takes over and fireworks go off on the pallet. This is one of the best BWs I have come across. The pallet takes the sweet, deep (almost perfume like) musk and stays thick, without the roast, from start to finish. Matt from Capone’s recommended this, and it did not disappoint!
