COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dominion Millennium is a very strong ale brewed in the English Barley Wine style. Often called the "sherry of the beer world", barley wine is best sipped at warmer temperatures, and should be enjoyed in moderation, as it contains twice the alcohol of regular beers.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with The_Epeeist. Pours a hazy amber with a thin off-white head that disappeared after the first sip. Lots of fat carbonation bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass. Light aroma of caramel with some lemon detected as well. The flavor is caramel with some citrus hops towards the finish. A bit more effervescent than I would care for in a barley wine. Some butteriness, but not as much as I would expect in a barley wine. Probably not something I’d revisit.

hoppage: 1998. Thanks to DaSilky1 for sharing. Amber colored, Lots of alcohol present in the taste, but balanced a bit by the sweetness.

Bottle. Color was an opaque, golden auburn. Aroma of malt, caramel, and alcohol. Taste was much of the same; a somewhat chewy palate feel. Not complex enough; flavors did not blend all that well. Above average beer, but not too amazing.

bottle - Pours orange/brown with a thin head. The aroma has malt, caramel, mild hops, and perhaps a bit of oak. The flavor is caramel malt well balanced by some moderate hops taste and some fruit tones. Full bodied and tasty, it’s worth a try.

12oz bottle.....pours a semi-transparent amber brown with a very thin off-white head..... typical sweet caramel malt, almost cough syrupy. not something that i enjoy.... flavors are much of the same and it still remains cloyingly sweet..... probably a little too much age on this one.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2005 It says bottled in 1998. Pours a cloudy brown with a small silky off-white head. Very malty aroma with a ton of spice, caramel, gingerbread, and a roasty thing going on toward the end. Taste is very thick and strong, maple syrup, mollasses, chocolate, some woody tastes, very complex and tasty. Very smooth mouthfeel with a nice slight bitterness to balance out the taste at the end. Amazing brew that seems to have aged very well.

From this quality brewery comes a beer that punches you in the gut with alcohol like a cannon. I think they should have opted to take the syrupy sweet route which hides the alcohol better (think Old Horizontal). Instead, Old Dominion went with the dry, carbonated variety of barleywine, which still works, but just isn’t my favorite. Very malty.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2008 [draft - 10th Annual PA Microbrewers Fest, Pennsylvania Brewing Co. - Pittsburgh, PA] This was 11.4%? It definitely didn’t taste like it. Poured a deep amber color with a thin white head and good carbonation. Strong aroma of sweet malt and caramel. Quite tasty. The taste was just as tasty... a nice sweet malty flavor with a slight alcohol warm, at that point I still didn’t know it was over 11%, and a creamy finish. cb says that this is like a fine port, so now I’m a bit curious to try a port to do some comparing.

06 Bottle shared by emacgee. Thanks Ethan. Pours a hazy amber with a small tan head that fades leaving little lace. Nose is sweet, alcoholic, and lightly hoppy. Flavor is sweet and malty, but as Ethan mentions, its a pretty thin mouthfeel which kind of detracts from the overall enjoyment of this brew. Okay, I enjoyed the oak aged version much more.

2004 12 oz. bottle via trade with kp - Pours a cloudy deep amber color with a thin off white head that faded pretty quick. No lacing. Light carbonation. Aroma is vinous and full of esters. Flavor is big esters and some malt sweetness. The alcohol is noticeable in this one. A pretty nice BW. Thanks Keith.
