Amber-brown pour, slight off-white head. Strong caramel, honey and alcohol aroma. A bit of a tannic oak bite after a sweet fruity flavor. Medium body, mild carbonation. This is a heavy beer both in alcohol content and in flavor... no seconds needed.

Pours a dark copper with hints of red. Smells of caramel sweet maltness. White grape and raisiny sweet scents are also present. Tastes lightly of prunes and golden raisins. Very well balanced, the sweetness comes across first followed by a slight bitterness and a small but warm and pleasing alcohol bite makes itself present in the finish. Similar in many ways to TCOA in my opinion. Very enjoyable barley wine.

4/10/06: 2006 bottle. Pours clear orange-red with small off-white mostly diminishing head... Aromas of strong malt, molasses, rasins and honey... Slightly sweet, rich taste with a long finish... Palate is med-full with a creamy texture... Alcohol hid very well and very yummy... Man this is a good local BW but just wait fot the oak-aged!

Pours clear light amber with little head. Aroma of malt, slightly hopped. Pretty straight forward. Not the best barley wine I’ve had but not a bad beer either.

Being a new resident of Virginy, I have yet to really be floored by this local brewery’s offerings. Today however, I stumbled upon an ’05 bottle of this barley wine. Since cellaring stuff on my own was a grevious encroachment of my waffer-thin will power, this pre-aged find was a double gold star. So, what do we have here? A honeyed-amber body with a suitable creamy ring around the glass edge. Plumped up golden raisins soaked in rum escape the goblet and remind me thar be alcohol in this here brew. Candied orange zest, molasses, lightly aged rum and a spiced corriander/ pepper finish reassert the beer’s barley wine stylings. Clean finish, for a b-wine, and contains a freshness that keeps me drinking. Or perhaps that is just my barely contained alcoholism bringing the glass to my face again and again until the pain and sorrow melts away into a fuzzy nothingness. Ah, sweet release. Oh yeah, back to the beer. All in all, a good barley wine and perhaps my favorite offering from Dominion thus far. Cheers.

This beer is well balanced with hop flavor and malt. However, there is bitter finish that prevents the beer from tasting better to me. Texture is buttery and as expected for a big beer.

Another year, another stellar vintage of Millennium, Old Dominion’s very special barleywine. This beer is my opinion is one of the world’s greatest beers. It’s huge malt character is balaced to perfection by its huge hop character, and pure Virginia dark honey, gives it the perfect alcohol boost. 02 Millennium pours to beautiful, bright, deep amber color with a thick and creamy off white head, and a soft carbonation. The nose is very fragrant with big sweet and caramel malt aromas paired with grassy hop aromas and peppery alcohol. The body is lush on this beer with fat sweet malty and caramel flavors, paired with a nice back drop of estery fruit. 02 Millennium finishes with more complex and delicious malt flavors, then ends with a soothing, warming, high ocatane burn, and a balancing hop bitterness to those big malty flavors. This beer is perfection in a glass, and will continue to improve with age. Without question, one of the greatest barleywines being brewed today.

A hoppy barleywine with beautiful color. Sweet, light, malty, alcoholic aroma. Defintely a strong alcohol taste.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2006 Bottle. Pours copper red with quickly fading head. Floral hops and a sucker-punch of piney hops on the nose. Taste starts out with a nice hop kick that fades into resin, pineapple and light caramel and honey notes. Alcohol warmth helps the malt aftertaste along. It’s more citrusey than most barley wines I’ve encountered but I’ve actually grown to like that aspect.
