4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hopscotch (8242) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - SEP 30, 2002UPDATED: MAR 10, 2008 Bottle... This beer rocks!... Great aroma. Just a lot going on. Very malty, moderately floral and yeasty. Nutty with hints of sweet bread, dough, plum, apricot, ruby port and honey.
Nice looking beer. Cloudy amber with a small, creamy, khaki head... mostly lasting.
Flavor is very malty and very bitter. Perfectly balanced despite high abv. Full bodied. Syrupy mouthfeel. Fizzy carbonation. Long dry finish. Excellent beer!

2010, 10.5% abv bottle thanks to billshmeinke. Pours with a quite murky deep bronze to amber hue with a medium sized offwhite head that fades to a ring. Big aroma of booze, sweet cara malts, stewed fruits, figs, dates, marmalade and honey. Very sticky smelling yet pretty refined. Flavors are malty, sweet, toasty, honeycomb, tea, marmalade and raisins. Lots of crystal malts, yet surprisingly not quite as sticky as expected. Medium to full body, medium carbonation with some alcohol.

On draft at the Mad Fox Barley Wine Festival, Falls Church VA. Pours an almost clear amber with a creamy off white head that receded leaving lots of lacing. Caramel and raisin notes in the nose. Viscous mouth feel with medium carbonation. Flavors of honey, caramel and citrus hops. Alcohol strong in the bitter finish.

Delicious Barley Wine-style beer. Malty with fruity notes. The heaviness of this beer means you won’t be tempted to "throw them back". This beer should be sipped and enjoyed. Works very well as a "dessert beer". 2012 vintage was MUCH better than 2011’s.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 radio_nowhere (440) - Maryland, USA - JAN 20, 2013
12oz bottle into snifter glass. Reddish brown color with off-white head. Aroma of sweet bready malt, caramel, honey, dried fruits(raisins, plums, figs) and alcohol. Taste is the same as aroma, a little tartness too. Moderate mouth-feel and carbonation, balanced, somewhat hot alcohol and hoppy finish after the overall rich sweetness. Very good.

yeasty, roasty malts in the aroma,a bit fruity and raisiny too, honey, and a hint of hops as well...appearance..slightly cloudy brownish amber creamy white head good lacing...i get a strong and slightly scotch like alcohol hit up front in the flavor and finish.. fruitiness and surprising bitterness,or is that burn,in between..some barleywines tend more toward the scotch ale side and this is one.if thats your bag you might like this, but for me it’s.not bad but not a fav
