afireinside96 (330), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 29, 2008 bottled 02/01/08. poured into a Duvel glass. pours a hazy burnt amber with a small off-white head. smells strongly of citrus with some port notes and a bit of honey. spicy floral flavor with a good deal of alcohol overpowering the lighter flavors of fruit and honey. finishes bitter with way too much alcohol. maybe with some age it would be pretty good but for now it is just way too hot.
MrBendo (974), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jul 17, 2008 12oz bottle. I can’t remember when I bought this bottle, but I need to re-rate a new one. More hops than I was expecting. Hazy orange with a small head. Aroma of citrus hops, candied fruit and honey. Warm and mostly sweet caramel and honey. But I bet it was better fresh. pint_size (989), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 14, 2008 6-24-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to kramer17801
Super thick orange amber brown. Smell is so mild and hard to really detect anything in there aside from a touch of alcohol. Flavor is high alcohol. Not very developed or balanced and too much present alcohol for me. Hophead22 (78), Redlands, California, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottled on 3/5/2002. Nazy orange, some floaties. Slight malt aroma. Sweet malt flavor to it . Not bad MaltDawg (221), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 10, 2008 2005 cask on tap at Capital Ale House Virginia Beer Festival. Aromas of carmelized malts with rum soaked fruits and alchohol. Mostly clear golden with minimal white head. Raisins plums and earthy aged hop flavors over sweet carmelized malts with some woodyness.
Full body with sweet finish of spicey hop bitterness and alchohol warming.
Excellent. beerbill (1157), Laurel, New York, USA Jul 4, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with The_Epeeist. Pours a hazy amber with a thin off-white head that disappeared after the first sip. Lots of fat carbonation bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass. Light aroma of caramel with some lemon detected as well. The flavor is caramel with some citrus hops towards the finish. A bit more effervescent than I would care for in a barley wine. Some butteriness, but not as much as I would expect in a barley wine. Probably not something I’d revisit.
