3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Drake (6507) - Ivy, Virginia, USA - APR 9, 2013
12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee with an earthy note. The taste is chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, faint hops. Finish of faint burnt and booze notes. Medium bodied, well balanced and quite drinkable. A success for these guys which is something I’m not quite used to.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Elwood (2493) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - APR 7, 2013
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Wegmans Leesburg. It pours black with a loose tan head. The nose has notes of green pepper and stale coffee. Not very inviting. The flavor has a light sweetness with notes of old coffee, vegetals, light roast, and a hint of chocolate. The flavors aren’t very harmonious. Medium to full body with average carbonation and a vegetal finish. Not very good.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Pours a deep black with a generous tan head and decent lacing. Aroma is not that strong, malts and coffee. Taste is somehow sweet smoked malts combined with coffee notes the 9 % ABV is not really noticeable making it a very balanced beer with a nice hint of bitterness towards the end. Very nice and enjoyable beer. Props to the local boys.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 UnionBeerCzar (75) - Michigan, USA - MAR 24, 2013
Twelve ouncer to Stella glass (its what I have here at work to work with) pours black as night with three quarters of inch of off-brown head. Nose is of fresh brewed coffee and heavily roasted malt. I consent with other reviewers that the alcohol is well hidden in this beer, I will however disent in that this is a very nice beer... Not like a huge standout or anything but a very well put together stout nonetheless. I’m getting great lacing and and a wonderful coffee flavor that is not overpowering and blends well with the malt bill. Sharp sweetness on the front palate, but immediately balanced by heavy heavy roast and coffee and the middle and finish. Medium/long iced coffee finish. I also enjoy the fifties girlies on their bottles, so yea, good stuff.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Changed (305) - Ithaca, New York, USA - MAR 24, 2013
12oz. Pours black, off white head. Decent lacing. Aroma is sugary malt. Flavor is smoked-malt, buttering towards the end, very thin mouthfeel. Okay, it is 9% hidden well, but where’s the body & complexity? Glad I didn’t pay for this one.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 GSH1976 (127) - Delaware, USA - MAR 23, 2013
Pours almost opaque with plenty of light brown head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is malt with some coffee flavors but isn’t very pronounced. Taste is roasted malts and some bittersweet chocolate. Body is medium. This isn’t a bad beer but there is nothing special about it. All of the flavors are muted. The most intriguing aspect of this beer is the 9% abv. The alcohol is hidden extremely well.
