Poured a jet black from a 22 oz bottle. Little to no head which was disappointing. Probably due to the higher abv. Smelled just like an espresso from a coffee shop and tasted the same but a little sweeter. Seriously... Put it in a Starbucks cup and heat it up and you wouldn’t tell the difference. Sticky on the lips and very light carbonation. Again probably from the abv. Great filling dark coffee stout. I could drink it in the morning with a donut.

Bottle. Poured black color with an average tan frothy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium complex dark roasted coffee aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted coffee sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a solid brew.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 12/5/2013. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, light smoke, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and solid complexity of coffee and dark/roasted malt notes; with decent strength. Taste of roasted coffee, chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, and roasted earthiness. Light roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of roasted coffee, chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and solid complexity of dark/roasted malt and coffee flavors; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice coffee stout. Good balance and solid complexity of dark/roasted malt and coffee flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Sample at Kurtkeller 015: Coffee-tastic 02 on 07/05/2014. Pours jet black with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing. Coffee, chocolate and malt in the nose. Medium to full body with flavors of creamy coffee, roasted malt and semi-sweet chocolate. The finish is roasty with a mocha aftertaste. Decent overall.

Silky enough texture, but not what I would call a great coffee stout. Where’s the flavor? Where’s the heavy malt? Not impressed. Nine percent you say, well that is impressive because I would never guess it was so heavy. The label is visually appealing. 12oz bottle pour.
