3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours a borderline black color, albeit one that lacks impressive thickness. The head is a four finger khaki shade featuring nice retention. The head leaves behind some nice lacing, also.
S: Thereís a good espresso presence here, but itís not overpowering or even super-strong. Beneath the coffee notes lie notes of licorice, chocolate, roasted barley, cream, and even some leafy hops. Really damn pleasant, if not massively bold.
T: Initially it opens up with some light roasted barley and chocolate. Coffee builds up on the finish and aftertaste, backed by some licorice, nuttiness, char, and even a touch of piny hops. I donít think the espresso used here is amazing, which is my biggest quibble. Decently deep and enjoyable, though.
M: Indeed, this one lacks body. Itís not the driest coffee stout either, choosing to err slightly towards a sweet finish. It goes down superbly, which is my #1 desire for a good coffee stout.
O: I donít think it can compete with WnB or FBS. I do think, however, itís a solid alternative, and a superbly priced one at that. And it delivers the drinkability and the coffee-ness I look for.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
DATE TASTED: November 29, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Samuel Smith tulip pint... OCCASION: Christmas lights--up and operational... APPEARANCE: pitch black body supports a creamy, thick brown head that smears cirrus clouds above its half-finger base... attractive crags form while the head settles... AROMA: deep, alluring peat and coffee bean... what else? some briny notes with roasted malts... slight alcohol wafts in... PALATE: warm, soft, and smooth--much gentler than the 9% ABV would suggest; late action warms and leaves a comfortably lingering aftertaste that cooks... TASTE: as advertised, a powerful shot of coffee bean and roasted malts... the flavor is not overwhelming, but it is demonstrative... reasonable sweetness... OVERALL: as espresso stouts go, solid and rewarding...the ABV instantly numbs and the caffeine stimulates...one of Dominionís better, right up there with the Oak Barrel stout...

Aroma of chocolate & coffee. Small off white head that disappears. Dominate chocolate flavor with a hint of coffee. Coffee taste seems to take over later in the beer.

Tap @ JB.
Pour pretty black, with a frothy one-finger sized head beige head.
Aroma is pretty darn coffee forward. Plenty of roasted coffee beans, dark bitter chocolate, roasted malts, faint hoppy notes.
Taste is pretty bitter, with faint sweet notes. Medium but slightly watery body, with a mellow carbonation. I quite like this, but it isnít playong more keys than the coffee stuff

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
pitch dark, small brown to light brown head. aroma of sweet roasted malts, coffe, dark chocolate and perhaps a little bitter caramel. faint coffee and some frutiy notes. flavor is lots of coffee, dark chocoloate, coffee bitterness, mocca, whole coffee beans, chocolate cake, some roasted malts. liquid dessert, hops and malts almost just spice to the really heavy coffee and chocolate. Not very refined, but very brutal instead. You can clearly taste the coffee beans.
