4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: Black body with a creamy brown head that has excellent retention.
Aroma: Strong earthy coffee with hints of cocoa. Coffee is the star here.
Taste: Coffee overlies a cocoa and caramel base, like a caramel cappuccino. Excellent.
Palate: Medium to thick bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Excellent coffee stout, certainly coffee heavy, but the subtle undertones make this.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This beer is better than I expected. It is as good out of a bottle as it is from a keg.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
It is quite delicious especially at room temperature. Pours dark coffee black with a creamy beige head. Aroma is fresh brewed roasted coffee and malts so pleasant in the nose with a big sweet component, almost berry and chocolate. Body is a bit lighter but lighter than expected but that doesn’t take away from the beer at all. Flavor is similar to aroma, chocolate malts and smooth lightly bitter roasted flavors that settle nicely.

Caramel black color from 12 oz bottle..little head as expected..nose is good with definite coffee, vanilla..dark malt..chocolate..mouthfeel is much smoother than anticipated..quite good with great masking of the abv yet remaining complex..almost milkshake like as stated in philly beer scene mag..very surprised by almost everything about this..nose..mouthfeel and smoothness in particular..a solid stout that pairs very well with breakfast..clearly one of the better offerings from this outfit..pleasantly surprised..

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle courtesy of a co-worker. Thanks Ian! Pours a jet black with a tan-colored head. Looks nice. Aroma is definitely espresso, a little chocolate and slight spice or pepper too. Interesting. Taste is similar with a burnt coffee/bitter lasting finish. Body is slightly thicker than medium, texture is a bit thick and creamy. Average carbonation. A great beer to have after a hard day. This bottle was chilled from room temp a couple of times so I am definitely interested in having one fresh. This one’s from April.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle: Pours a mostly opaque black with a spotty-lacing froth of beige head. Has a sweet toasty dark caramel and chocolate malty nose with lots of fresh coffee. Starts with good fullness and sweet dark malty with good espresso flavor and roasty bitterness before a semi-sweet dark chocolate finish. True to style with pretty good complexity.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee with an earthy note. The taste is chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, faint hops. Finish of faint burnt and booze notes. Medium bodied, well balanced and quite drinkable. A success for these guys which is something I’m not quite used to.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Surf Taco. The aroma on this is a close replacement to Breakfast Stout. The body was only medium at best but towards the end of the 12oz glass it seemed a tad bit thin, carbonation was a tad bot on the high end to make the body seem even thinner. Flavor was great, basically a cup of black coffee with some hops and burnt toast. Overall this is one solid underrated beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours from the 12 oz.bottle a dark brown that borders on being black with a HUGE 2 1/2 finger beige head that seems to last forever before settling into a thick collar. It's impossible to judge the carbonation level by looking for bubbles in the darkness. The aroma is somewhat faint, but there are hints of coffee and smoke. 1st sip brings a mellow mixture of black coffee and unsweetened dark chocolate. The flavors are somewhat subdued and underwhelming at first taste, but they linger and get more noticeable on and after the swallow. The mouthfeel is somewhat on the thin side, but has more heft than your average macrobeer. Overall, this is a good offering. Quite a nice introduction to this brewery and it's beers! Looking forward to more!
