Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is rich and smooth, a draught brew so popular at our Brewup that we found a way to bottle it for a wider audience. We combine seven different malts and two hops to create a delicious stout, that we dry-hop with fresh vanilla beans and toasted oak to finish our little treasure. The result is a stout that has the bourbon barrel flavor we all enjoy, and hope you will to.

Note: made with oak chips and vanilla beans, not aged in barrels. Available bottled and draft outside of the brewpub.

12 0z. bottle. Aroma- a little coffee and vanilla. Not very strong. Appearance Nearly black generous tan head that goes away quickly. Flavor- Starts with a little sweetness, a little roastiness with undertones of oak. Dries out at the finish. Medium mouth feel. Overall pretty smooth with an oak character that is not overwhelming.

Bottle at the Prince Blücher, black with a thin head, coffee plus touches of toffee and cocoa on the nose, dry and creamy with a faint tart plum note, hints of ash and bitter chocolate. Not exceptional, but very tasty.

Bottle at Porterhouse Covent Garden - London. Pours clear, ruby-brown with a fine, tan cream head. Sugary dark malt nose with hints of dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor with notes of milk chocolate, faint roast, subtle vanilla pods, bready dark malts, low bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation and creamy texture. Finishes sweet with light, dry cocoa, a bit more vanilla bean, hints of dry roast coffee, milk dark fruits. Not much barrel character. Easy to drink. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours black, small tan head, dissipates quickly, decent lacing. Aroma is light roast, ashes, cocoa. Flavor is light sweet and light bitter, roasty for sure, but not getting much vanilla. Some toasted oak is present, certainly no bourbon. A bit burned. Medium body.

Transfer from BA review on 5-26-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The brew pours a deep brown color, nearly pitch black with a billowy one finger cream colored head. The head fades moderately quickly to end up leaving a medium level of lace Smell- The aroma is biggest of dark roasted malt that is augmented by some aromas of vanilla. Some light chocolate smells as well as a presence of oak mingle along with these with some very light sweet aromas of caramel and a little bit of oak as well. Taste – The taste begins with flavors of roasted malt and some sweet caramel and vanilla flavors. The sweetness remains throughout the taste with some flavors of chocolate coming more toward the middle. At this same time the oak flavors come to the tongue, becoming more potent as the flavor advances to the end. A little bit of bitter coffee comes to the flavor more toward the end, cutting the sweetness slightly and ending to leave a sweet dark and oaky flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly lighter side for a stout of 6.1 % abv with a carbonation level that is rather average. A thicker body and slightly lesser carbonation may have suited the flavors a bit better, by making for a creamier taste overall. Overall- A pretty nice drinking stout. Good roasted malt flavors with a nice sweet chocolate and vanilla and some oakiness.

Very dark brown with tan head. Little carbonation, not as much body as a stout ought to have, but with a touch of creaminess. Tastes of vanilla, milk chocolate, with mild bourbon edge. Clean finish. Lots of stouts better than this one.

Dark brown pour. Don’t see much head or lace so far. Aroma of oak, malt, coffee beans and hops. Flavor is the same, contributing vanilla and possibly some cacao. A touch of lemon zest at the end. Medium body, mild bitterness, medium duration, chewy texture. Good character to this stout! Still no lace.

Bottle. Sample at Voldby Ølmesse 2014. Jet black pour with a small dense head. Loads of milk chocolate, vanilla fudge and some light coffee. Pretty nice but a bit too sweet.

Pours oily, clear, very dark brown. Creamy, tan head. Aroma has roasted malt and oak. Flavour is roasted with vanilla and bourbon notes. Sweetness giving way to bitterness and light alcohol burn towards the finish.
