COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is rich and smooth, a draught brew so popular at our Brewup that we found a way to bottle it for a wider audience. We combine seven different malts and two hops to create a delicious stout, that we dry-hop with fresh vanilla beans and toasted oak to finish our little treasure. The result is a stout that has the bourbon barrel flavor we all enjoy, and hope you will to.

Note: made with oak chips and vanilla beans, not aged in barrels. Available bottled and draft outside of the brewpub.

On draft. Well, my wife liked this, and I did not. I found it much too sweet and strongly vanilla flavored. I love stout and in general repect Dominion beers... htis is niot flawed, but not to my taste. Too much oak and vanilla, too little stout. But obviously this is a well liked beer, so try it and see.

This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a thick off white foamy and creamy two finger head. As the head dissipated, thin clingy spider webbing lacing sticks along the sides of the glass. The smell had a big luscious sweet milk chocolate rolling into a dark chocolate and roasty coffee tones. Vanilla and woody notes help to balance. The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors to combine and make sweet adding a light smoke to further balance. A super smooth creamy roasty sticky sweet aftertaste leads into a big sticky sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice roasty coffee to sweet vanilla stickiness on my tongue. Overall, uh...wow, where did this come from! Love this stuff! Definitely would have again!

Smooth, a bit sweet. Cocoa, vanilla, coffee, and roasty malt. The finish trails off a bit quickly, but very nice overall.

DATE TASTED: April 4, 2015... GLASSWARE: Brew at the Zoo pint... OCCASION: the Easter vigil is upon us--and my Lenten sacrifice is over... APPEARANCE: dark brown, thick and rocky head; thins but stands moderately still as the pour finishes; dark black body... AROMA: some rum fragrances early; peaty and sweet, with some woody notes; some chocolate and milk as well... PALATE: soft and smooth, with some lactic qualities--holds a reasonable aftertaste but doesn’t intrude; medium-bodied and subtly creamy... TASTE: a nice blend of lactic chocolate and darker, malty flavors; drinkably agreeable without being thin; good balance of alcohol and flavor; the woody hints are just that--a pleasant brew for the early spring months rife with wind and rain; just a touch of vanilla makes this end with a peaceful atmosphere .....OVERALL: I first drank this years ago from a holiday sampler, but in seeking its standalone, I find it a worthy first beer after a long Lenten journey; an all-around balanced stout with enough nuance to stand out...

12 oz bottle into tulip. Almost black with some translucency, small tan head. Lightly malty aroma. Taste is very lightly sweet with light bitterness and some notes of vanilla and oak. Medium bodied beer. Reasonably light finish. Overall good tasting beer, not bad for $9 a six pack. Would personally prefer a stout aged in real bourbon barrels.

Pours very dark brown, opaque in the glass, with a tan head that has limited retention but leaves some lacing on the glass. Medium-full and smooth body with medium+ carbonation that seems too lively. The flavor has a very nice vanilla bean component with a very faint oak barrel component and a moderate level of dark roasted malts. The vanilla is more obvious in the nose and builds in the flavor with repeated sipping, eventually becoming a wee bit too strong. Lightly sweet sweet-bitter balance.

Vanilla smoke scent is nice, taste is Smoke and vanilla some hints of cocoa, for a stout not very much bite to it that I personally like still not too bad

Bottle - deep ruby red with a light brown rocky, foamy head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, oak and bourbon. Taste of smoke, cocoa and vanilla followed by earth, a little oak and light bitterness. Medium body, high carbonation.

Bottle from kihoskh, dark brown to black, smooth brown head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel and roasted malts.. notes of vanilla too. Flavor is chocolate, vanilla, some roasted malts, quite sweet and non-bitter , but with quite a lot of flavor. end is somewhat more bitter as wood bitterness kicks in.

Bottle, 6%. Weak metallic and sweet aroma. Black colour. Small tan head. The flavour is weakly roasted, but has more of a teaish hoppiness. Perhaps a little lactose, but I do not get much barrel flavour or even much vanilla. The mouthfeel is a tad watery for the ABV, but the flavour is not bad.

Pours dark amber, nearly opaque. Aromas of caramel, vanilla, and toasted almonds. Taste is roasted malt with peppery hops. Vanilla and wood chip is there but subtly added. Some mild carbonation takes away from what should be a creamier mouth feel. Overall decent but I had hoped for something more.
