COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This rich, red ale is made in the American Pale Ale style. It has a strong hop character, medium body, dry finish, and floral hop aroma. We use pale Two-Row Brewer’s malt, Caramel 80 and 40 Lovibond malt, and Munich malt. For bittering and aroma Willamette, Cascade, and Tettnang hops are used in the kettle and as dry hopping in the fermenter.

Hearty brew with matlry fruit-like aroma. Similar to brandy with a citrus-like edge to it. Hints of caramel flavor. Smooth texture, medium body. Excellent with wintertime thick stews.

Bottle. Caramel-like aroma, simple, but good. Wow, this pours as the darkest "pale ale" I’ve ever seen...the color of a heavily tanned Native American. I was expecting a drinkable session beer, but the flavor is complex and layered, a nice blend of roasted nuts, sugars, barley, and a hoppy undertone. Finishes smoothly. I would enjoy having just one of these, or drinking them all night long.

On tap at "brewhouse" in Dulles airport. Really nice floral aromas and slightly toasted malts here, good to smell. Full mouth flavor here with differing levels and a certain amount of complexity. Buttery fruited notes are balanced nicely by a sturdy piney hops presence and a buoyant floral touch. Easy to drink and very quenching. Very good. Went great with a nice spicy chili.

Sort by:  Latest High Low Top Reviewers Alström Bros Reviews   feloniousmonk ( Minneapolis, Minnesota ) overall:  4.15 Appearance: slightly hazy, bold tangerine color, beneath fresh white head, though short-lived. Aroma is a treat, bold and hoppy, absolutely dripping with vibrant ho juiciness, grapefruit, orange, peach, all manner of fruitiness, quite appealing. These flavors make a happy return in the taste, after a brief blitz of hop bitterness that swiftly fades and mellows. Lively fruity flavor never seems to quit, and the abundant hops are handily met by malt, just enough for a sweet, lush cushion. Medium body, light, still hoppy finish. Very tasty, even very, very tasty, reminding me at times of SN PA, and I even get an echo of Alpha King. I’d be very happy any time I’d find this little treasure around!

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2004 Bottle: Medium dark amber with a thin white head. Medium bodied. Aroma: sweet caramel, malts, pine, mild spicy floral hops. Very nice full flavor. Caramel, sweet malts start things out with the floral, spicy, and grapefruit hops and a nice earthy tone balance things out. Smooth & crisp.

A mate brought this fine American Pale Ale back from a trip to Washington - thanks Gordo. Bronze colour, short tan head. Aroma has classic grapefruity hops, Juicy Fruit chewing gum and toffee characters. Smooth bodied and warming, with a tart, dry finish. Rich, raisiny middle, with some caramel. Very good indeed.
