The Spring Brew varies year-to-year. The back label should state what style it is, so make sure you rate the correct style!

Each season, our brewers develop recipes that highlight great brewing styles, traditions and ingredients. Hops take center stage in our Noble Imperial Pilsner, with forty pounds of noble Saaz, Tettnang, and Spalt hops going into each twenty-five barrel batch. We employ first wort hopping to create novel tastes and aromas; the result is a fascinating 70 IBU beer. Enjoy!

This Pils isn’t very Imperial. Pours clear golden with a light orange hue. Thin off-white head and scarce lacing. The aroma is somewhat hoppy with a bit of citrus and traces of skunk. Medium body and well-hidden alcohol. Not too hoppy, and it has some malt and fruit flavors. All in all it is a slightly ratcheted up Pils that doesn’t really blow the doors off the style. Still, it is pretty interesting and drinkable.

A very respectable beer with sweet grassy aroma and flavor with some grassy hops and every so slight alcohol. Can’t complain with this one.

Bottle - Thanks to the incomparable slob for this trade! Pours golden with a light haze and a large creamy white head that diminishes mostly yet still leaves some good lacing. Aroma is sweet and perfumey with lots of the floral hops evident. Flavor is rich and malty with lots of the advertised hoppiness making it crisp as well. This has a light malty sweetness with notes of apricots, peach and tangerine rather than a heavy malty sweetness like darker or more robust beers. The alcohol is also well hidden for an 8.5 monster pislner. Mouthfeel is medium body, with creamy carbonation and a ’fresh’ feel. Quite a treat.

Pours a luminous golden yellow color with a light, whispy head. Aroma is a bit bland actually - especially considering all of the drop hopping touted on the label. Mild grassy aromas - I don’t get much of the floral aroma that others got though. Some pepper in the aroma. Mouthfeel is dry, crsip and refreshing. Flavor starts off with a little malt sweetness and then those hops hit you. I can really taste the Saaz hops in this one - spicy and peppery. Very well balanced and drinkable. Finishes crisp and leaving you wanting more.

Pours a medium/light gold body with a small white head. Aroma is lemongrass, and flowers. Flavor is grassy, flowers, a little citrus, and a bit peppery. Smotth clean palate. Very nice.

the standard for imperial pilsners...this is truly agreat beer, with grassy and floral hops infused with a sweet tasting, dangerously drinable lager, mouthfeel is nice & slick...WATCH YO SELF!!

Bottle: Light pale yellow straw with a small white head. Aroma is hops - spicy saaz, grass, flowers, a little bit of lemon. Light to medium bodied. Taste is grass, sweet light malts, spicy, bitter hops, leaves, flowers, yeast, pepper, herbs. Light, hides the 8.5% very well. Surprisingly balanced.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2006 ’05: bottle from chevy chase liquors. aroma is strong, funky saaz. flavor has nice maltiness, but i could do without the dry-hopping, which overpowers the otherwise remarkable initial taste. a subtler finish would rock on this one. still, hides the 8.5% very well: it’s almost dangerously drinkable. ’06: bottle from whole foods. clear blond with small white head. aroma is caramelly malt, funky hops. flavor is phenomenal: herbal, earthy hops, bready malts, but the finish is just too malty for me. It’s still really good, but not as spectacular as it could’ve been.

Bottle. Nice golden amber color. Short lived white head and slight lacing. Nice hoppy aroma, floral and a bit spicey. Medium bodied. Crisp and slightly drying mouthfeel. Very hoppy flavors. Peppery. Malt struggles to balance out. Nice beer.

In my opinion it was simply too hoppy. It picked me up, slapped me around, and made me call it big poppa. Too heavy on the tongue.
