vadavid (131), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA Jan 29, 2008 Spring Buck pours a bright amber-gold color with a white head that drops rapidly leaving a ring, but little lacing. The beer is very effervescent, with a never-ending stream of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. The aroma is honey, with some faint hints of pepper, clove and banana. There’s a slight yeastiness noted as well. The flavor is predominately honey, orange, and a typical Belgian spice flavor palette. The mouthfeel is moderately thick with a creamy feeling, though the visible carbonation isn’t felt in the mouth. The aftertaste leaves a lingering but light pepper bite.
The_Beer_God (2856), Newport News, Virginia, USA Jun 7, 2008 Bottle. Bottling date is 011408. This has been under refrigeration since purchase. Hazy gold pour. Small white head. Nose is fruity, somewhat sweet, light yeast and honey. Taste is equally sweet with more honey notes, ripe fruits, yeast, spices, and soft candyish notes. Body is light-medium but very bubbly and effervescent. Finish is more fruit notes, lots of yeast, sweett malts, some candy flowers, soft spice and honey. Not as bad as the previous ratings let on. Perhaps my bottle is the exception, but I enjoyed this. mtdshn (163), Moline, Illinois, USA May 17, 2008 Bottle courtesy of nimbleprop - thanks man! Pours a fairly clear honey golden brown with a minimal amount of head. Aromas are fairly sickeningly sweet malt. Taste is pretty sweet, lightweight, but some faint fruity notes in there. It’s a fairly decent blonde ale, but it’s a tad too sweet for my liking. obguthr (707), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Apr 23, 2008 Heavy DMS smell of peas and urine. Golden color, with floaties and a thin head. Sweet carrot flavor. DMS unavoidable throughout. Uniquely disgusting. after4ever (1752), Brier, Washington, USA Apr 21, 2008 12-oz. Thanks, Blindeyedbetty! Pours cloudy dark gold with a thick, sudsy platinum blonde head. Plenty of lace on the way down. Sour wet grass funk on the nose. Light, almost watery body, not much carb. The old wet grass comes back around on the mid-palate. Not much else there. I can see how this would be a refreshing change of pace, and it’s cool that they’re successful enough with this to bottle it. But it needs a serious dose of complexity, and that funk needs to be a lot more palatable. brewandbbq (226), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Apr 17, 2008 Pours sparkling clear gold with an orange hue. A soapy head of white with short retention left a few dots of lacework before dissolving to nothingness.
The nose is phenolic and spicy.
Cloves, bananna, orange zest, and a hint of honey.
Prickly, crisp mouthfeel, with medium carbonation.
Light malt, orangy sweetness, and clovey goodness all lend plenty of Belgian character to the pallet. Slightly floral and peppery with bubblegum. Alcohol is warming with some residual honey undertones.
Hopping and bitterness is minimal and balancing.
Finishes fairly quick with some slick, rounded honey essence and a trace of earthy floralness.
Not the most complex Belgian, but pretty tasty and plenty drinkable. The chamomile is not really detectable though.
