COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Known Vintages: 2006

Dominion Kristall Weizen is a filtered German-style wheat beer. Many wheat beers are unfiltered which leaves yeast in the product that gives beer a cloudy or hazy apperance. Dominon's Kristall Weizen is made with the finest German malts, formulated by brewer Derek Bailey, the malt bill is 60% German wheat combined with German Pilsner and Munich malted barley. German Hallertau hops give this beer a classic flavor and aroma. We believe our summer ale will quench your thrist.

The Summer Wheat varies year-to-year. The back label should state what style it is, so make sure you rate the correct style!

In 2005 this beer was released as a draft only "mid-season" at the pub. In 2006 the beer was brewed as the Summer Wheat.

Crystal clear golden coloured body with a nice off-white head, even from draught. Aroma of wheat, coriander seed, yeast, corn and a small amount of curacao. Medium-bodied; Chewy taste with strong bananas, cloves and yeast in the taste. Aftertaste is nice and refreshing - malt is leftover with a good amount of sweetness. Overall, a good american kristall - If you bottled this with a german label, you’d never know it was produced in the states...let alone a suburb of Washington! A great beer to start off the Old Dominion Beer Festival with! I sampled this six ounce sample from pseudo-draught at the Old Dominion 2005 Beer Festival on 24-June-2005 in Ashburn, Virginia.

Aug. 2006 - Crisp and clean wheat beer. Clear yellow color. A moderate amount of wheatyness with some spices (though not clove). Flavor is lemony with some grassiness with a tart tang finish. An alrighty summer beer.

I had this some time ago but had only remembered recently about it when I was going through old beer notes and bottles that I had been saving. Poured a clear light amber color, medium head. Carbonation a little higher than I had expected. Banana, wheat, and lemon. It was decent, but probably a style I’d avoid in the future.

Bottle marked 7/27/07. Clear light gold. minimal head. Aroma is mild wheat and earth. Taste of wheat and some mild earthly tones. Mouthfeel is rather heavy for what I was looking at. A heavy medium mouthfeel. The aftertaste is a bit of wheat with some dcent malts. overall not bad, but since this isn’t my favorite beer style, that’s saying a lot!

Bottle; poured a clear, dull and light gold. Lots of carbonation visible early. Aroma was not great; lots of wheat, some lemon and a light funkiness. Flavor was on the mellow side, but had a unidentified flavor that made it unappealing to me. That being said, this has never been one of my preferred styles.

Beef liver and clove aroma. Weird! Fairly clear golden color, thin white head. Tastes still a bit meaty with coriander. Very strange brew, both hearty and refreshing. Hop finish. Not exactly bad, and uprated for originality.

Light citrus with some wheat malt in the aroma. Medium brown body with a small head. Medium palate showcases flavors that are tangy, nutty and smooth. Refreshing--but doesn’t have as many wheat characteristics as I expected.

Thanks to Secret Santa. Bottled 6/06. Big Carbonation suspended in hazy golden-straw colored brew. Wheat aroma with light acidity and lemon. A bit of a metallic hint. Semi-sweet with lemon acidity. Hint of wheat that are not to forward or overpowering. Lightly sharp, medium but refreshing body. A good brew

Bottle (2006, a Kristallweizen, 5.4%). Sour biscuit malt aroma with yeast and a little citrus. Clear golden pour has a short little fizzy head and out-of-control aggressive carbonation. A little sauerkraut and boiled ham and sprouts in the nose, as well. Sweet and sour citrus taste puckers the mouth on first sip. Not as sharp as expected, and more oily/greasy. Light-medium body, citrus/gummy aftertaste. Weirdly sweet and somewhat childish – oy!
