hopscotch (9519) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 16, 2009
Bottle… Pours clear and extremely dark - burnt orange when held up to bright light - with a quickly dissipating head. The chocolaty, toasty, earthy nose provides additional, inviting notes of vanilla, toffee and a whisper of worn leather. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and prickly carbonation. The sweet, chocolaty flavor is a touch vinous and hints at mild acidity. Lots of nice deeply roasted essences. Crisp, pleasantly sweet finish. Big thanks to Immy for shipping the bottle my way!

surffisher (198) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - MAY 9, 2009
Pours clear dark brown with garnet highlights, and a thin fizzy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is mostly roasted malt, with some light expresso, lactose and milk chocolate notes. Flavor features expresso more prominently with a little root beer. Dry throughout. Medium-bodied; a bit thin for the style. Relatively high, prickly carbonation. Overall, a decent baltic porter; really somewhat closer to a robust porter in style.

hellbilly (3249) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - MAY 5, 2009
a hidden treat in a box from zathrus13... clear ruby dark brown pour with a tannish beige head. it’s short lived and quickly fades to a film. aromas of milk chocolate, black raisins, malt powder, lactose, nutty/coffee and a lightly toasted fresh piece of wood mix with a savory/salty/earthy note. i can only guess that that is the lager yeast... sweetness is no issue on the palate unlike many in the style... flavors of chocolate, toasted and caramelized nuts, coffee, molasses (w/o the sweet), ashy charred malt and a touch of cream with a fairly tart finish. the aftertaste is of nutty coffee with some light ash. light to medium bodied with an incredibly soft mouth feel... though it lacks some richness. call this a porter and i’d be all over it... 7/3/7/3/15/3.5
