Bottle. Body-looks like a coke. Nose-macroness, crushed malts, smoke. Taste-smoked malt, the sweepings of a brewery floor, wet hay, wet straw, ash tray, some (very little) burnt plastic, cola nut.

Pours clear dark brown with garnet highlights, and a thin fizzy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is mostly roasted malt, with some light expresso, lactose and milk chocolate notes. Flavor features expresso more prominently with a little root beer. Dry throughout. Medium-bodied; a bit thin for the style. Relatively high, prickly carbonation. Overall, a decent baltic porter; really somewhat closer to a robust porter in style.

a hidden treat in a box from zathrus13... clear ruby dark brown pour with a tannish beige head. itís short lived and quickly fades to a film. aromas of milk chocolate, black raisins, malt powder, lactose, nutty/coffee and a lightly toasted fresh piece of wood mix with a savory/salty/earthy note. i can only guess that that is the lager yeast... sweetness is no issue on the palate unlike many in the style... flavors of chocolate, toasted and caramelized nuts, coffee, molasses (w/o the sweet), ashy charred malt and a touch of cream with a fairly tart finish. the aftertaste is of nutty coffee with some light ash. light to medium bodied with an incredibly soft mouth feel... though it lacks some richness. call this a porter and iíd be all over it... 7/3/7/3/15/3.5

Dominion Winter has a dry, earthy character. Light smoke and dirt. Malt, with lager yeast. A little oxidized perhaps, but still good.

THOUGHTS: I was really surprised at how good this beer was. And it wasnít just a great beer, it was a great example of the style. A little light for the style, but nice. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark brown that was mahogany red in the light with a very small, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was moderate to heavy grain, roasted and caramel malts. There was some lighter milk chocolate and mild coffee. There was also very light grassy hops. Also Raisin, plum, prune toffee and light alcohol. The initial flavor was sweet and bitter; while the finish was very sweet and a little bitter with and average duration. There was prune, chocolate, roasted malt, and some coffee in the finish. The medium (a little thin for the style) body was oily with fizzy carbonation and a chalky, lightly astringent and lightly alcoholic finish.

Bottle Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and some nuttiness. Flavor was roasted malts, rich chocolate, light caramel and some notes of toasted nuts and faint smoke with a medium body and has a malty sweet finish.

Pretty unimpressed. Tasted like it had some watering down going on here. Extremely light body that fades fast and all tastes along with the swallow. Water everywhere. Smooth, sure, but I was disappointed.

Courtesy of markwise. Pours dark brown with thin tan head. The aroma is smooth and roasty with an even layer of musty dark fruity esters and some earthiness. The taste begins both malty sweet and roasty and then moves into a bit of prunes, grapes and rip cherries. Into the finish I get mildly tart grape skin and malty roasty dryness bringing this to closure. Smooth brew with robustly dry finish.

Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a thin-lacing off-white head. Aroma of toasty dark caramel and butterscotch with a touch of graininess. Body starts with some vanilla and dark caramel sweetness with a touch of milk chocolate and some diacetyl notes before a buttery finish. Needs a little more fullness and complexity, without the diacetyl.
