3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Hop City. This looks pretty dark. It seems black in dim light but some brown hues are noticed around the edges in better light. The aroma is decent with hints of licorice, coffee, and chocolate. There is some off-putting sour type scent as well. The flavor is pretty clean with adequate roast to keep my sipping this down with a smile. Hints of licorice, caramel, chocolate, and earth are in the flavor. All right stuff, just has some sour lager twangs popping up here and there.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown, medium light tan head fades. Aroma of coffee, toffee, mocha, grain, oat. Taste is rich dark malt, chocolate. Medium body, thick and creamy for a Porter. Toasty finish.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. bottle from Total Wine in Norfolk, VA (bottled October 20, 2009). The first thing I notice before opening this is that it is only 6.8%. That hardly seems worthy of the Baltic Porter style. The pour is dark brown with a thin off-white head. The aroma is good with toasted oats and dark chocolate. The flavor is solid with smoky malts and some coffee. This is thin bodied especially for the style. As a porter this is a pretty good beer, but in no way do I believe this is a Baltic Porter from both the ABV and the taste.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a crimson tinged black with a thin to medium dense tanned mocha head. Roast and coffee on the nose, picking up a faint caramel note as it warms. Medium bodied, roast and malt, a little vanilla. Missing the dark fruit Iíd expect from a Baltic porter. Still a decent beer though.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Bottled sometime in October) This beer reminds me of a higher gravity version of the Polish Porter that ODBC brewed several years ago during its Ashburn, VA heydays. It is smooth well rounded with dry notes of coffee and milk chocolate.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz twist-off bottle. Black pour, off-white head. Aroma of coffee, nuts, toast, chocolate, and some wood, licorice, and molasses. Light refreshing texture. Flavor of burnt grains, lots of chocolate malt, very chewy with a touch of pepper on the tongue. Lots of toasted malts, very pleasant on a cold winter day.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(12 ounce bottle - pint glass) Pours an opaque brown liquid with a light tan head. Aroma is chocolatey, woody, vanilla, coffee and maybe licorice. Taste is a roasted malt, the malt also has a little bit of rye in it which does alot for this beer. Spruce hops, notes of chocolate, smoke, coffee, wood and vanilla. NOTE: this beer is not 7% ABV it is 6.8%

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
The 12 oz. bottle produced an impenetrable mahogany-colored lager with nice dark tan head. There was little head retention and little lacing. Aroma is all toasted malt and light smoke. Palate entry is lightly sweet, with the advertised chocolate, anise and caramel notes rounding out the introduction. A well-designed hop balance finishes the beer and leaves a pleasant and lasting zest. The ABV is 6.8 (not the 7.0 noted by Rate Beer), and is well concealed. A very good, mainstream commercial interpretation of the style.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle courtesy of BeerBelcher. Dark brown pour with a red tint and a medium beige head. Malty and roasty nose with some chocolate, but is obviously true to style because it smells like a lager as well. Caramel malt flavor with some chocolate and a nice roasty character. Very nice representation of the style as it is definitely a lager, but fuller and more roasty than some of the other BPs Iíve had.
