The Winter Brew varies year-to-year. The back label should state what style it is, so make sure you rate the correct style!

Old Dominion Imperial Stout is a brew of extra- ordinary flavor and complexity. It is slightly sweet, with a chocolate character that is especially noteworthy. It is strong and warning but round and soft at the same time.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2005 Bottled. Black, small head. Fruity licorice aroma. Sweet and very roasty with lots of coffee. Clean, raw mouthfeel, really bitter finish. Sugary and unrefined.

Pours pitch black with a sticky off-white head. Aroma is heavy roasted malts with chocolate hints. Flavor is sweet roasted malts with an orangy citrus and dark chocolate finish. Medium-full bodied. Great brew.

Fairly dark appearance, first impression was that it had decent taste but mouthfeel was a little watery. Taste is of slight chocolate, a little sweeter than other imp. stouts. Not bad, but not among the best for the style.

Dark brown appearance with a medium size tan head. Muted, nutty aroma with a hint of coffee. Roasted malt taste, somewhat bitter, not too sweet. Medium-bodied mouithfeel with a dry, slightly fruity finish.

Rich and thick. Tastes like chocolate going down. Unfortunately it finished rather poorly as the alcohol flavor is just too overpowering. Otherwise a great Winter Ale

I’m gonna rate this as a beer and not to style because this brew fails miserably at being an Imperial stout. It’s still an enjoyable brew though. Dark brown, quickly fading head. Creamy medium body. Sweet milk chocolate with some roasted malt notes. A great sweet stout.

Sweet liquorice/anise aroma, similar flavour. Big warming alcohol too. Few chocolate notes. Black in colour. Nice

Nearly opaque black with a thick tan head that leaves spotty lacing behind. Aroma would be really good for a regular stout, nice roasty malt presence balanced with sweet caramel, dark fruits and a touch of milk chocolate, just not that pronounced. Body starts sweet, mildly syrupy and dry with a nice fresh hoppy balance. Finishes somewhat sticky and dry with hints of gritty sugar, but no alcohol. A nice beer, but falls somewhere between imperial and sweet stout. Thanks Kinz!

Thanks to herbjones for sharing. This is not an imperial stout. Repeat, this is not an imperial stout. It’s more like a dry porter. Medium body, but Not an imperial. Very tasty, but I’m not sure how to rate it. I can’t rate it high as an imperial. The label says "Winter LAGER".

this impy stout was a super dark brown in color.by the time i got to rating the head,it was gone.the aroma is a wonderful roasted coffee. would agree that this isnt much of an imperial stout, but its a top notch session stout.nice coofe, chocolate flavors.mouthfeel is full, but still smooth, very light acid.where is the 8%?this is a nice session stout.
