COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Known Vintages: Winter 2005

The Winter Brew varies year-to-year. The back label should state what style it is, so make sure you rate the correct style!

Designed by Old Dominion brewer Favio Garcia, this winter warmer is a big ale that is lushly hopped with Liberty, Cascade and Centennial hops. Whole leaf Cascade hops are added to the lauter tun. A delicious beer to toast the holiday season

This is the 2005 version. The 2007 version is listed seperately as Dominion Winter Brew 2007 (IPA)

12oz bottle acquired in trade with The_Beer_God (thanks!). Poured a deeper copper color with a large sized off white head. Aromas of stonger oranges with some pine, caramel and light spices. Tastes of caramel, oranges, and grapefruit. Nicely balanced - sweet aromas with the hops and a sweet start with a light bitter finish.

Copper body with little to no head. Bottle dated 111105. Great aroma, sweetness in it that I couldn’t quite place. Lots of hops in the aroma as well as the flavor. There was also some caramel in the aroma. The aroma was def one of the best I have smelled, the best part of this beer. Slightly piney taste that I found nice. Good balance in an IPA, not too much hop flavor. Tasted very clean, but wasn’t lacking anywhere. Dry, bitter finish. An excellent brew, and the fact that its from Virginia makes it even better!

Bottle. Dated 112905. Can’t believe how long it took to get this down here this year. Pours bronze with a small tan head. Nose is surpringly sweet and malty with a nice pine hop aroma intermingled with lemon, and orange peel. Taste is malty and sweet with lots of caramel, light grapefruit, hint of pine and spicy hoppiness. Very nice stuff! Body is medium with moderate carbonation feel and some mild bubbly notes. Finishes with more caramel, bigger grapefruit, light pine, a bit of alcohol, and light orange. It’s basically a "run-of-the-mill" IPA but it’s done so well and is really hitting the spot right now. Plus I’ll admit a slight bias towards Old Dominion. Very tasty beer! Recommended!

Keg at the Old Dominion Brewing Company, Ashburn, VA. Brown colour with alarge white head. Hoppy and malty aroma. Flavours are hoppy with some nice counterpoint malts. Full bodied. Quite spicey. Excellent.

Clear, bubbly orange-amber body with a cream colored head. Strong hoppy aroma with a malty background. Taste is dominated by hops, but supported by a decent malt backbone. Aftertaste is dry, modestly bitter, and faintly biscuity.

12 oz bottle, Nov. 2005 bottle date. Pours a crystal clear orange-amber, small off-white head. Nose is malty, slightly sweet and lightly spiced. Hops are apparent, but not overwhelming. Flavor is bitter, with some of the malt and caramel peeking through. Finish is dry, middle of tongue in paticular. Some bitterness and maybe a touch of pepper hangs in the mouth, but overall clean. Nice to see a good IPA that isn’t hopped through the roof once in awhile. Nicely done, Dominion!

Kinz (3023) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - JAN 14, 2006
Clear amber with orange tinge, decent head fades into a ring. Spice and pine hop aroma. Biscuit malts are dominated by bitter aspirin and some pine flavors. More bitterness here than actual hop flavor. A good, drying tongue scraper of a beer, would be nice for obliterating the remnants of a cloying sweet beer from the mouth, but in the end not partiuclarly enjoyable.

Pours red-amber with a small white head. Very leafy and piney aroma with a light malt background. Soapy and piney flavor, with a strange, sharply metallic and sweet finish. Not bad, but not really a winter brew. Gets better (less metallic) as it warms.
