Visual marrom, espuma cor de caramelo, abundante mas de pouca duração. Aroma lembra toffe e caramelo, um pouco ácido. Paladar trouxe notas amadeiradas, doce, amargor quase inexistente. Aftertaste de caramelo, média duração. Em geral bem equilibrada, ficou devendo no aroma.

0,25l on TAP at O Monge in Porto. Dunkelbraunes Bier mit kleiner Schaumkrone. Hefiger Geruch, schmeckt auch so mit einer angenehmen fruchtigen Komponente.

Piana w konsystencji kremowa, podobna do musu kawowego, ciemno be?owa, niezbyt trwa?a, pozostawia ko?uch. Aromat karmelowy, ?liwkowy, ?ywiczny.

Bottle of 33cl, in a Trappist glass. Great deep brown colour with a brown head. Nice beer, very very sweet taste... Disturbing. It says Abbey Beer... well I don’t think so, that’s why I put 8/20 on the overall section.

I remember tasting this back in the nineties, and apparently it is still around today. Thinnish but moussy, pale beige, lacing head over a hazy dark burgundy beer with little fizz. Aroma of apricot slices in syrup, molasses, caramel candy, candi syrup, candied dates, biscuit, hint of dried orange peel, coriander seed, ginger, marzipan, nutmeg, lots of plastic-or glue-like solvents and lots of iron. Sweetish, very caramelly onset, dried fruits but not too much happening here; middle phase has a certain malty nuttiness but otherwise remains quite caramelly with minerally carbo, a bit metallic; finish is still the same caramelly sweetishness (probably industrial caramel rather than cara malts) with a slight sourishness, rather thin body and low hops profile, some leafy hops in the background but otherwise no hops balance to speak of, as well as a touch of badly hidden alcohol reminiscent of some cheap bourbon. Very one-sided, metallic, industrial, a bit chemical, artificial and boring. A disgrace to the ’dubbel’ style, if you ask me - much like that horrible Leffe Brune which is incomprehensibly overrated here, just like this one (which at least does show some actual dark malts being used - I am far from sure this is the case in Leffe Brune!). Think Westmalle or Chimay, guys!
