COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Status uncertain.
Red India Ale is a delicious, strong 5% hoppy beer similar to an IPA. The colour of dark cherries, this beer has a fruity sweetness like berry and dried fruits, with a smooth full bodied taste.
Inspired by several IPAs sampled at the GBBF 2009 (sigh, it seems all we do is work, work, work), we set about developing our own offering of this style. After several recipe tweaks, we think we’ve cracked it.
This ale has a beautifully balanced combination of hop and malt. The Perle hops add a rounded buttery taste, while the Centennial hops add the fruity notes, and the grains add a toasted malty depth. Mmmm Tasty.

Cask at the Plough and Harrow (JDW), Hammersmith. Poured reddish amber with a dense cream head; some pine resin to the aroma; smooth creamy texture, with some sharply bitter pine and grapefruit to start then a fuller, sweeter, fruity flavour developing; the finish is dry and well-hopped without being over the top. Well balanced.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2011 Served through a sparkler at JDW Ealing (Sir Michael Balcon) 26/5/10. Pours a chestnut red-brown, hoppy and vinous notes on the nose, taste is strongly bitter, a little nutty, a little raisiny, but rather flat and one-dimensional - thanks presumably to the sparkler. Re-rate on 25-1-11, on gravity at the Roebuck, Richmond Hill. A little hazy, chocolate and baked apple nose with herby hops, then roast caramel and nuts on palate, sweetish roasty bitter finish.
