3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Boutip (3459) - Gatineau, - APR 22, 2011
Bottle: Poured a super hazy dark beige color ale with a super huge off-white foamy head with perfect retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of rustic Belgian malt notes with light barnyard notes and funky ester. Taste is a very nice mix between some rustic Belgian malt notes with funky yeast ester and light barnyard notes. Body is extremely full with limited filtration and great carbonation. Very complex beer with nice artisanal touch and rough edge not removed.

Beautiful autumn amber color--deep and with a dense caramel head. Belgian hop nose, crisp, and with a touch of soap. Very "beery" flavor. Dank, beer crusty, and toasty.

Recently this little brewery has become one of my favorites but this latest bottle of amber had a vigorous carbonation problem. It was close to gushing and very lively in the glass creating a nearly impenetrable head and muting the aromas. The carbonation dominated the palate and once it settled some the beer came off slightly sweeter than I remember. Given this brewery’s story you have to expect a little bottle variation and I don’t mind that at all. The great ones are great and the not so great ones are- lively if nothing else. At least you’re drinking something real and from a distinct place.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Alexandria tap ($10): Pours an amber color without much head. Aroma is mostly malty, with some earthy characteristics and a modicum of hops. Taste is slightly sweet with some minor funk. This is ultimately a somewhat boring and forgettable beer, but plenty drinkable enough.

Gedronken bij André (dutchdrebus) samen met René (benzai). Het heeft een oranje kleur, niet helemaal helder. Wit/beige schuimkraag. Ruikt een beetje bitter en naar caramel.

Bottle thx to benzai. Gusher alert! Hazy orange to amber colour with a decent white head. Smells malts, grains, yeast and maybe some orange peel. Tastes fruity, fresh, orange. Way too much carbo, it wreckes the taste and drinkability, medium body.

Purchased at Fox & Obel in Chicago, IL, enjoyed on a Thursday night prior to making dinner. This stuff is pretty intense. Appearance a very very cloudy, murky darkish amber with a rich slightly off white head, looks like a potion. Aroma of yeast, stinky cheese, slight sour, definite fruit presence, possibly apples, definite spice presence. Taste is very Belgian, wild yeast, sour/cheese backing, apples do come out in the mix for me, definitely a lot going on but it doesn’t taste especially great, grows on you though. It’s decent, happy to have tried.
