Alengrin (1296) - BELGIUM - AUG 21, 2014
Dormaal’s first farm ale, a tripel with hazy peach blonde colour, stable off-white head and soft sweetish and bready character, very yeasty, mellow, full, with a mild floral hop bitterishness in the end; well-balanced, certainly for a first beer.

Een blond bier met weinig smaak aan, spijtig genoeg. Ziet er beter uit dan het smaakt

Aroma of ripe fruits, citrus, earthy, yeast, light spices. Flavour is medium fruity sweetness with a light bitter finish. Simply a good Belgian Blond Ale, quite Saison-like.

37,5cl bottle Geers. Beautiful design, as always, creates anticipation in original style. Subdued apple&pear compote aroma, like in a middling baker’s Apfelstrudel, indistinct spice, yeast pollen piercing through. Texture is what bothers me most about this beer, it’s very one-dimensionally honeylike to soggy and makes the sugared taste even less expressive: more apple&pear blossom honey on layers of homemade cake malts. Not all that much payoff for its ABV and hence rather a stylistic fall-back in the Belgian Strong Ale for this new brewery.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance had a nice frothy white two finger head with a clear blond-ish color. There’s a fair amount of carbonation that is seen rising. The smell had a good amount of yeasty/bready notes coming through in a rustic /earthy sort of way. Light apples and pears are there as well. The taste was earthy sweet with the light bready notes coming back. On the palate, this one sits about a light to medium in the body as it shows a decent sessionability about it. Overall, I say this was a good beer worthy of coming back to.
