Murky brown with a good head that quickly dissipates. Berries, apricot, plums, oak casks on the nose. Taste starts slightly sweet, flash of sourness all around the mouth and ends with bitterness. Leaves a bitterness with an earthy, peaty taste in the mouth. Very cool.

(Dormaal Wit Goud (White Gold)) 375 ml bottle at home, as White Gold, everything in english on the bottle. Corked and caged, served into a tulip, ABV 8% The cork went flying the moment I released it off its cage. Thankfully no gush. Very hazy on the body, orange in colour, huge slightly off-white head, collapsing quickly and then stabilizing to one finger of foam, with excellent retention.Light lacing on the glass. Aroma of belgian yeast, cooked egetables, light grapes, peach, apricot, faint caramel. Tasts has fruity notes of peaches and apricots, light grains, some nuts, alcohol, sugars, yeast, a very faint touch of sourness, white wine hints. Nicely bitter on the aftertaste. Medium body, highly carbonated. Very good, I liked it.

Aroma of yeast, fruit, vegetable, floral notes, spices, a little farmhouse funk. Flavour is slightly tart, moderate sweet, with a moderate bitter finish. Enjoyable enough.

Rich golden color with a full off-white head. Nose:floral, yeast, hoppy, some malts, typical HFTD grains. Overall Rich warm nose. Taste:malt, a malt sweet body. Hops with a gentle bitter brood finish. Round MF. Subtile. Well made, had this beer before and did meet expectations. One of the better HFTD beers for me.

Also tasted as Winter 11. A beer paying tribute to the Brussels ’witloof’ culture of Kampenhout, a much-revered vegetable, basically the leaves of the chicory plant, cultured in the dark and therefore remaining white, in: having been deprived of photosynthesis. This vegetable is a 19th-century Brussels invention and remains justly popular in Belgium; its bitter roots have effectively been used in this beer as a support for the hops. Thick, sticky, off-white but rapidly breaking head, hazy orange blonde colour. Estery aroma of apple, peach, apricot, pineapple, honey, yeast, earth, roots, bark, grass. Fruity onset, mellow honeyish matiness, starch-like powdery mouthfeel, yeasty and rooty, with bitterish tail in which the leafy bitterness of the hops is difficult to distinguish from the earthy bitterness of the chicory roots; some warming alcohol as well, but not disturbing. Quite interesting, if you’re into earthy, estery Belgian ’yeastiness’, but could have been more elegant and more balanced.

Murky brown with soapy head. Sweet and peppery aroma with light banana and spice. The earthy bitterness of witlof is very muted but just tracable in the finish.

Nice yellow with good foam top. Lots of carbonation, almost got the cork in my eye... Calms down after a while though. The witloof is present, in the nose and the mouth. Tastes more of caramelised witloof though. Earth and leaves, witloof, yeast, candi sugar. Mostly bitter and sweet, but well balanced. Long finish.

Lekker biertje, fris gedronken .
