batch E!022 This beer was a treat, a nice deviation from what US brewers are doing these days, and I welcome it. The beer is a lovely grain color with a strong finger or two of white foam and spotty lace. The smells are grainy (in the farmy way, fresh and sweet), grass, yeasty, and there is the slightest indication of tartness. I get a hint of pear on the nose. The flavor follows through and offers a nice bite behind my jaw of tartness, but this is short lived. Quickly a nice, sweet wheaty tone comes through and again the pear flavor is present for me. As the beer warms, I get really nice white wine notes (particularly reminds me of naked Chardonnay). A sincerely lovely beer. Thin bodied with lower carbonation and a semi dry finish. I would offer this beer to many wine enthusiasts I know and expect that there would be a significant appreciation for the beer. A wonderful, insghtful and innovative beer for the US. Bottle at 2nd tuesday tasting @ De Molen, hosted by dEnk. Clear deep golden pour, white head. Aroma is sugary malts, spicy and with loads of earthy vegetables. Flavor is quite bitter, messy and with witloof. Not my thing.

Bottle shared at the De Molen monthly tasting. Pours clear golden brown with an off white head. Aroma of vegetables, yeast and caramel. Flavor is over moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. But the question is, why?

37,5 bottle, Geers 2013. Pale orange-golden ale. Contained, slightly moldy and sweet vegetable aroma. Chicory Muckefuck base bitterness in a Belgian golden ale yeast profile: the execution is flawless for the ad-hoc style it coins, all aromas and taste are fully present. The question remains whether a 8% chicory beer needs to be. Interesting added complexity through the dry pale barley malts, almost like a whisky malt. Not too fond of the trippel-style alcoholic esters floating on the top, and the concomitant semi-dry palate, working against the also present more attenuated saison quality. Novelty to share, if somewhat strange as an aperitif.

Pours slightly cloudy gold with some limited head and minimal lacing. Nose is grassy and some barnyard. Notes of cereal, grassy bitterness, some light citrus and a solid peppery hit. Taste is medium bitter and some spice very little sweetness. Full body with lively carbonation and a dry acidic finish. Nice!

375 ml bottle. Pours clear medium yellow with white head. Green aromas, especially vegetal in nature, some spicy and citrus notes as well. As for the bitterness of the witloof/endives compared to hops, it is a bit more raw, earthy and adds a mold kind of odd aroma and flavour to it. Prefer hops in my beer, but a nice and bold try.

(bottle, 37.5cl) Almost cloudy, deep golden colour with a medium-sized and slightly off-white foamy head. Yeasty, delicately bready malty and slightly wheaty aroma with vinous fruity notes, accompanied by hints of alcohol. Moderately sweet flavour, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly bready cara-malty base with mildly fruity notes of peaches and pears, also an obvious presence of alcohol, lingering into the moderately sweet malty and slightly fruity finish. 04.IX.13

Bottle @ home, picked up at Mile High Denver. Cork was starting to poke out of the lip of the bottle. It didn’t gush but it does have pretty heavy carbonation. Pours a bit hazy, dark orange appearance with huge, tan head. Spicy herbal hoppy, a bit chewy yeasty, lemon zesty, rustic aroma. Tangy, somewhat refreshing, chewy malty, lemon fruity, herbal, grassy, yeasty flavor that finishes somewhat yeasty and lightly bitter. Not too bad.
