Whole Foods, Bowery 375ml ($6): Pours orange with a white head. Aroma is fruitiness and farmhouse funk. Taste is slightly sweet. Has some hoppiness towards the middle. Feels like a floral and little spicy saison throughout. Kind of lame aftertaste though.

Ambrée, dépôt en suspension, bonne pétillance. Mi-houblonnée, mi-maltée, épicée, légèrement fruitée, légère amertume (un comble pour une bière au chicons!)

Traded bottle. Cork limped out of the bottle with no carbonation and no head when poured. Overall pretty mild tasting with a slight hint of sourness, a little spice and a dry finish. Meh.

37cl bottle from dranken Geers. Hazzy amber body with small white head. Malt, citrus, banana aroma. Medium carbonation. Complex spicy taste, nice bitterness. ***

At ’t Antwaerps Bierhuiske. Pours reddish orange with a big white head. Smell is malt, fruit, herbs and spice. Taste is sweet and earthy with licorice then finishing dry. Nice carbonation that is smooth with medium body.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. The aroma is full of orange citrus with some wheat notes thrown in. The flavor is more of the same. I get some citrus, wheat and biscuit malt, as well as some Belgian yeast. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

A confident, sweet-ish, and reasonably bitter Tripel-strength blonde ale with a spicy, herbal streak of witloof weirdness. Somebody had to do it. An admirable gimmick beer good enough to share over a meal.

Pours deep gold into a tulip. White micro head with excellent retention slowly recedes leaving scant sheets. Caramel, bread and hay aromas. Sweet caramel and yeast upfront turning to bitter earthy sourdough finish.

Cloudy amber beer, little pale cream coloured head. Softish and airy palate, semi dry. Mild citrus among the creamy wheaty malt. Mild spice. Trace of brandyish alcohol. Not bad at all and went well with spicy food but needs something more.

375 ml. green bottle @ ’t Antwaerps Bierhuiske. I have been morbidly curious about this one because it just sounds like a terrible gimmick. I like raw chicory but not cooked plus it just sounds like he put it in here because he had it growing on his farm. The label makes a different argument, sitting the prosperity that chicory brought to his youth & chicory based dishes in his youth. Yeah, chicory is definitely featured in traditional Belgian cuisine in case those things sounded odd to you. It comes to say that this one was a big surprise, really, really good & fulfil the promise of the potential flavours & qualities the Hof ten Dormaal brews have been hinting at me for some time now, finally coming to fruition. Cloudy golden with a white head. Dominated by the typical Hof ten Dormaal “other” grains / apparently barley showcasing itself at its best, spicy with love esters, great yeast with some caramel sweetness blended in towards the end, I can pick out sweet (not the bitter parts) of chicory if I try, maybe, herbal, sweet malty, touch lemon maybe a vague vegetable thing. Fluffy, well carbonated saison body, brilliant stuff. Love it a lot.

375 ml bottle. Cloudy amber color. Sticky, off white head.. Aroma’s: yeasty, fruity, somewhat malty sweet, hint of alcohol. Again, the yeast character is very reminiscent of Dupont. Flavor is lightly sweet (caramel) and somewhat bitter. Medium bodied. Finishes somewhat dry and rather bitter. Another lovely artisanal farmhouse beer.
