Cask at Back of Beyond, Reading. Deep amber with a small off-white head. Caramel and butterscotch and too much diacetyl. A little fruitiness and a decent earthy bitterness doesn?t make up for the rest. Not great.

Bottled. Clear, with a deep ruby, copper colour and a minimal off-white head. Very malty aromas with dried fruit. Dry hop flavours balance the malty backbone. Not bad.

Cask at The Playhouse, Colchester. Poured a clear dark amber with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is weak malt with some hoppy notes. The flavour is medium bitter with a malt hop liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A decent bitter but the hoppy aftertaste wasn’t great.

Was on tap at The Kings Head in Salisbury. Chain pub but quite nice and good selection including this authentic bitter, with a good level of hops. Bronze color and modest head.
