Cask-conditioned at the Portcullis, Bristol 10/12/09. Near black with a slight, tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, roasty malts and a hint of chocolate sweetness. Flavour was dominated by a slightly sour, lactose edge with some charred malts and fruit, leading to a bitter finish. The least of several porters tried the same evening.

Cask JDW in Weymouth. Thin off white head, fruity aroma, malt and ripe fruits on taste with low bitterness, low to medium roast flavour. Finish gives a greater roast malt with a dry bitterness. Colour a dark reddish brown, not as dark as a classic porter. Couldn’t taste the fresh vanilla but it was a very enjoyable beer all the same.
