Also good from the bottle. Despite being almost unknown, this Pilsener deserves a ranking amongst the better ones. It’s quite bitter, but if you like a mix of Hasseroeder and Jever, this is the beer to choose

Bottle, 4.9%. Weak hay aroma. Pale yellow colour. Small white head. The flavour starts off bready, turns clean. OK bitterness in the finish.

Ok. Perhaps my palate has just been spoiled by the juicy 5-0 Arsenal victory over Porto in the Champions league. Perhaps. At first, I was about to write this brew off as another, winded attempt at German purity laws just banging out average brews. Well, in turn, it’s not too bad. Before I start, the things that kill it are it’s off putting nose, and horrible color. The nose does open a bit but remain severely grain oriented. It does, however, have some roasted nut qualities. And it is a bit floral. Some lacing. Again, very pale and unattractive. Taste is grains, slight bitters, and again carries over a nice roasted edge along with some floral hints. Despite it’s bitter bite, it rounds off in an opposite way; being it’s really smooth. That is what I like about this brew. It’s palate is biting, yet finishes creamy. I think the way that it works from a bitter grain to a creamy grain is it’s strengths. Toss in some creativity and it will live up to the image Dortmund is portraying with "reinventing" it’s image from Steel, Coal, and Beer, to Arts, Culture, And Beer.

Ungstrup (23961) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - NOV 21, 2009
Bottled. A light golden beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of malt as well as light notes of straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and straw, leading to a dry and bitter finish.

I don’t know if it’s only the fact I’ve had finnish beers for almost a month before this, but this one is truly good. Some yeastiness in the nose, but the flavor is really good. Smoothly bitter with a very pleasant hoppiness. A little sweet and flowery with smooth carbonation. I really liked it. Very pleasant, not too crisp.

Koelschtrinker (7060) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUN 6, 2011
Test vom 15.9.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,8,9,8,4,9 - 8,45

(Bottle 50 cl) Clear pale golden with a dense white head leaving some lacework. Clean and malty nose. Medium body with sweet malts. Dry and lightly hoppy finish. A very straight Pils. 041008

pivnizub (7231) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - OCT 12, 2005
Bottle: Straw golden coloured, big white fluffy, lacing head; grainy nose, combined with some grassy hoppiness, very mild bitter flavour, short dry, but smooth bitter finish; all in all quite mild and better, because not so agressive, than the most "extract"-spiced brews
