COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dos Equis Amber is a rich, full-bodied Mexican import with a reddish-gold color and is made from the finest ingredients, representing the brand’s traditional Mexican heritage. The history of Dos Equis Amber is traced to the development of the popular Oktoberfest-style of Vienna lager originally created during the mid-19th century.

Here in Michigan, if you order a Dos Equis on tap, this is what you get. Buy Dos Equis in Mexico, or at the party store, and they give you something else. This is good stuff, very enjoyable and goes well with a Mexican dinner at Don Pablo’s, Chi Chi’s or Tucson Jack’s in Bay City.

Much better than Corona -- the other Mexican standard -- but still not a great beer. Its flavor is more pleasant than most of the American big boys -- it does, after all, have some flavor. It’s light and non-threatening with just a hint of a bite and a palate that lingers just a bit too long and seems just a bit too pungent.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2007 Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium to dark amber. Aroma is lightly malty (grain, caramel), with light notes of apple, metal shavings, and chemicals. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation. Not a very clean rendition.

Mild molasses flavors make this somewhat worthwhile, though Negra Modelo still rules the roost of Mexican beers.

Near as good as Special Lager, better than any American mass produced ale. subtle aroma and good color, nice Vienia type beer.

A good drink when it is hot outside. Not a very good beer though. It does not have a stronge taste (like the commercial description says). Still better than Corona.

in spite of the previous taster’s uni-lateral prohibition on bottle-rating, i’m going ahead ’cause the draft wasn’t available, and hey, it’s what i do. clear amber not surprisingly. cirrus like wisps of residual head. not much chance of detecting any subtleties of aroma since i’m sitting in the smoking section of a restaurante mexicano, but i reckon i’ve had this beer about 2.6 million times before and i know that even in the absence of cigarettes and chimichangas, there ain’t much to smell in there anyway. some bread, a breath of carmel, i think i dropped a peice of my chile rellenos in there which seems to help. overall, refreshing, thin bodied, quite boring. like the proverbial hot dog tasting better around a campfire, this tastes better when consumed under the stars somewhere on the baja penninsula.

As a favor to a friend, I sat in and took notes in a college class he had to miss one day, and to sweeten the offer he gave me two bottles of Dos Equis XX before hand. I remember the history of Henry VIII and the Reformation being much nicer with two bottles under my belt.
