Taking its name from the notorious great-great uncle of Double Barrel Brewery co-founder, Sean Smith, Bad Tom Ale promises to continue drawing the attention of the crowds. Noted for its unique taste, this beer is popular all across the broad spectrum of beer fans.

Master Brewer and cofounder, Charles Boucher, has fine-tuned his sixgrain/3 hop Irish Brown recipe to become the initial offering, and the flagship brew, of The Double Barrel Brewery.

Bad Tom is a medium body ale with rich reddish-brown color, a small tan head and a fruity aroma. With an essence of toasted malt combined with candied nuts and a light caramel flavor, the smooth texture is finely balanced with a blend of hops and an unforgettable clean finish. The result is an allaround balanced beer with the most important ingredient of all — GREAT TASTE!

Mild and nutty. Light-ish. Really light. People around me are ruining the score of the game I am intentionally not watching so I can enjoy this beer tour. Grrrrrr

on tap @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Cloudy dark amber color, heavy bubbly off-white rim head, spots and dots of lace. Taste is heavy sweet malt that turns crisp and a little bitter on the swallow. Overall. a little heavy in the stomach, but, otherwise, satisfactory.

Sample at The Daily Growler. Cloudy dark brown color with a medium beige head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, hops and caramel. Light-bodied with flavors of bready malt, caramel and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a short caramel malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft at Double Barrel taproom, summer 2013. Nice brown/dark amber hue, moderate malty/fruity nose, thin body, malty/fruity flavor with a prominent dark berry note. Interesting, refreshing brew that to my taste buds is kind of like a cross between a brown ale and a fruit beer. Might be a good gateway beer for those getting into craft brew

Draft to taster at Double Barrel. Looks good for the style; a deep amberish brown with light beige head that dissipates into lacing. Smells and tastes of malt with a bit of candy and a mildly sweet backbone. Solid on the palate. An easy drinker.

Draft at Flipdaddy’s in Mariemont, served in a pint glass. Pours a clear, bright reddish-orange color with a small off-white head. The aroma gives off a surprising amount of fruit for an "Irish Brown Ale" and also has notes of toasted malts and candied nuts. Flavor is mostly the same; slightly more toast and slightly less fruit. Light-bodied, with modest carbonation and a toasty, fruity mouthfeel. Odd combination. Hard to say if it was intentional.
