Wow, reminds me of a double IPA with tons of malt present as well! Packs a big punch, you will say wow when you take your first sip. Very syrupy, almost burns you with the alcohol present, more like taking medicine than drinking a beer. Nice.

Big woodsy hop nose, sweet toffee and very fruity flavors. ABís big brother, certainly. Plenty of peppery alcohol in the finish. Viscous mouthfeel.

Fantastic hoppy/molasses aroma. The taste is odd - it certainly has a lot of hops, but it doesnít really taste like beer that much. It leaves a clingy feeling on the back of my teeth and really thickens into something less than stellar. I wouldnít even call this a top-five Stone beer.

This beer introduces itself with a robust aroma of hops that lures you to inhale even deeper to discover the subtle hints of caramel and citrus that linger ever so faintly in the background. It goes on boasting a deep chestnut color, but it lets you know its confidence as its big thick camel colored head rests perfectly upon that solution. After you have been awed by this beers introduction and its strong demeanor you let this fluid into your mouth to experience an explosion of hops. The solution is thick and hoppy. There is a mild sweetness that hides in the background which turns into a mild citrus taste in the aftertaste. This beer warms the throat and then the tummy. The hoppy taste hangs on eventually turning a little nutty as it sits in the throat waiting for you to replenish it with another drink.

Iíve been wanting to try this for a long, long time. And on another topic, Iíve been wondering what a much further attenuated version of a barleywine would taste like. So...two birds with one stone! Um. No pun intended. DB pours a dark amber with a small cap of khaki head that settles fairly quickly. A swirl of the glass brings it back though, and it looks good. Aroma of resiny hops, toasty carmel, plum, and clean alcohol. Hot on the palate, with a big aggressive alcohol presense. Some carmel, more resiny hops. A bright prickly character on the tongue. For my taste, a bit aggressive and overdone, but still interesting and clearly well crafted. Thanks Alaskanwarren! It was fun to finally taste this one!

2004 bomber. Theyíre right, this is a lacerative muther of a beer. In fact, calling it a beer is a bit of a stretch, but, Iím starting to understand what constitutes a good American Strong, and to this point, my favorite would have to be Gentlemanís Jack. This doesnít taste like beer, itís bourbon with a head. Very malty aroma with a little oak and alcohol. Not bad. Very astringent in the mouth. Too much so. Also, not as much hops as I expected. Lots of flavors going on, oak, cherry, fig, chocolate, caramel, toffee, bourbon ... but they donít play nice. The bourbon is the king of this playground. Very dry and astringent finish. I much prefer the docile younger brother.

22 oz brown bottle purchased from Home Service Beer Beverage Discount Center, Glenview, NY. ABV 10%. Clear dark reddish amber having a small white head. Intoxicating fruity, toffee and sweet malt aromas. No discernable carbonation. Medium bodied ale that starts with light sweet malt with toffee and prune flavors. Middles with light sharp hop bitterness. Finishes with lingering bitterness. Richly flavored and well-balanced. This is an awesome IPA.
