This is a mouthful. Ambertan in color with no head and light carbonation. I taste recockulous amounts of flavor in this. The buttery to flowery hops keep changing with every sip. This is definitely my second favorite Stone offering and redefines the AB for me. A friend of mine had a keg of this stuff last year and had trouble finishing it....problem was he didn't invite me over enough because I really enjoy DB. I should have rated it earlier. Wonderful for the flavor impaired.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
I enjoyed the full bodied flavor that extended the abilities of my palate to try to hang on to the top of my tounge... and watching the less experienced try to handle the enormous flavor

2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 7/20
"Challenging" would be one way to describe this beer. Strong pineapple aroma, full mouthfeel but the flavour is rather buttery and alcoholic, like the yeast got to the 10% mark and just gave up. A rather surprisingly flat finish of itntense though rapidly descending bitterness.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Has a dark clouded ruby color with little carbonation and some lacing. Smell is roasted/malt. Taste is thick/sweet/very malty/slight alcohol and finishes dry/medium bitterness. Overall this is not that bad of a beer, something to have during the winter for sure.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
soft, light brown head, slightly hazy, ruby body, tiny bubbles. Soft and warm, very inviting. velvety and ripe. distinct Stone aroma (yeast?), hintd of roasted barley, ripe fruits, leather and spice. Rich and full all around. Dries out on account of the alcohol, but very well balanced. chocolate notes emerge as the exquisite warmth hits my chest. Complex, full and deep, an awesome offering, and superior to its little brother.

First of all, i'm really sorry to Greg for not liking this beer. Super sticky and syruppy. Some vanilla, with a heavy grapefruit and pine flavour. This beer is a challenge if their ever was one, especially for a "wussie" like me. A bit too in your face and unbalanced. Once again, really sorry i didn't like this, but thanks to greg from Stone for letting us have a shot at it.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Lightly hazy orangish brown color. Big aroma quite hoppy with a noticeable malt presence and fruity tones. Taste starts with carmel malts and lightly sweet then gives way to a more floral hoppieness and finishes quite bitter and lightly sweet. Noticeable alcohol presence, strong cherry tones and aggressive flavors.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: FEB 22, 2004 2003 release, bomber. Been lettin this one sit for about 2-3 months. Pours a deep orange-amber, with some lighter red tinges. Medium off-white, thick creamy head. Lots of lacing. Aroma of strongly bitter hops, sweet caramel malt and, some lovely oak wood and earthy flavors. Reminds me much of Batch 6000 and as I sip it, the flavor is very similar as well. Big hops bitterness up front, fairly young, with a strong, velvety soft caramel malt quickly asserting balance. Finish is like a whole new beer, quite distinct from the body. Woody notes mix in with a leafy, earthy hops and a dry butter-toffee flavor mixes with strong citric oranges. Very creamy, low carbonation, much more balanced than Arrogant bastard. Alcohol only slightly present in the nose. Very Very good stuff, and tastes more like a barleywine. Huge aging potential.

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2005 Liquid is blood red translucent under light. Nose is fruity malt and hops. Front is resin syrup thick, malts and fruit. Finish is hoppy, with lots of malt to balance things out. Overall spectacular!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(22oz Bottle) Pours a large, creamy, almond head and a red-amber body. No carbonation. Strong hop and caramel nose. Cask and barleywine flavours are overpowered by cascade hops. This is one of the first high-hopped beers that I haven't loved - its too unbalanced. Very good but somewhat over-rated. Many thanks to Argo0 for donating this to my cause...
