For a big brother to the arrogant Bastard, this one is much more balanced and very drinkable. I am becoming sort of a hophead and I have Stone to thank for directing me in that direction. The beer has a nice amber brown richness with a gentle hop nose. a well balanced bitterness that leaves you wanting more. If you can get up to go to the frig for another one!

Great transparent blood color, largish immediately dying fizzy head; aroma of smoke, butterscotch, cherries, pinecone-hops. Oakes has it right on the thickness; this is probably the heaviest non-Imperial stout Iíve had, extremely full and intense. Alcohol is a little too evident here for me, detracting somewhat from the otherwise well-balanced fruity/vanilla/caramel flavor profile. Hops strongly in evidence, with a nice long twang at the end. AB is right, this IS a bit too much -- but not in the hops, rather the alcohol. Good, but I think I prefer the "liíl brother".

Though one! Deep amber in color, strong malty aroma with a bitter hoppy sweet malty flavor. Though you can taste the alcohol it doesnít distract too much

Hmm.. Gorgeous color, deep mahogony/red. Head did not stick around long. Seemed to lack the hop assault of the regular Bastard. Maybe Iím just turning into a hophead. Overall a very decent brew. Recommend.

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2003 Beautiful reddish brown color. Huge everything about this beer. The aroma was full of citrus, sour apple, damp wood, ash, and toffee. The flavor burst out with strong hops bitterness, very sweet maltiness, and a kickin' sour apple character. I think this is an improved version of Arrogant Bastard. It's far more satisfying, and it really goes for the gusto. Nice crisp feel, and thick thick lace all the way down the glass. Wonderful!

Aromas of toffee, fruit, dough. Thick and chewy, this medium to full bodied brew is huge. Alcohol is hidden by giant malts, toffee, caramel, white raisons, all sorts of good stuff. Finishes with a bombardment of hops, huge! What an incredible brew, Im terribly impressed.

Tremendous clarity and excellent head under a big herbal and spicy hop nose. Extremely rich sweet deep malt (a bit cloying at times) though big hops help cut this rather nicely. Classic American strong ale flavor in the style of Bigfoot and DFH 90 min.

Dark red color. Strong apple tart flavor with a good balance of malt and plum. Wasnít looking, but didnít notice the high alcohol level in the taste. Interesting hop tastes.

UPDATED: APR 20, 2008 The Lure:
Candied citrus fruit, strawberries and lactic notes are pricked by alcohol beads. This is one healthy, bulky broad.
Creamy malt and cranberry/strawberry-like fruitiness hug the bold citrusy hops and their resinous bitterness. Grainy hay and a little alcohol in the back spike the candied fruit and licorice. Always excellent, massively hoppy, but with a supporting malt that helps you tolerate it.
