4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 11, 2006 This brew poured with a beautiful burgundy body topped by a medium thick head with good lacing left on the glass. Then the aroma of sweet caramel malt with god strong hoppy accents and a hint of alcohol hit my nose. My first tast was full of sweet and fruity malt with caramel notes and a good hoppy background. The finish was slightly sweet but mostly bitter and hoppy. I took another sip and another and another (you get the picture) and WHAT THE HELL? All I could taste was bitter hops with a tiny bit of the sweet caramel flavor showing through. I had to take a break. After about 5 minutes, I tried it again and....back to the first thing I tasted. I took a few more sips and BITTER! HOPS! BITTER! HOPS! Man! This beer kicked the hell out of my palate. Iím glad I wasnít planning on rating any other beer that night. Full bodied and slightly dry.

UPDATED: SEP 27, 2003 Copper with a tan head. Oh my! The aroma is wonderful! Oranges, apples, and caramel in the nose. Thick on the tongue with enough bitterness for anyone. Warm alcohol in the throat, dry finish. Nice caramel aftertaste with a dash of pepper. One balls to the wall Strong Ale!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rating #600! On Tap: Deep ruby hue with strong tan head and excellent lacing. Major piney and citrus hop nose with additional hints of plum, milk chocolate, toffee, molasses, earthy yeast, honey and pepper. Fruity and piney taste supported by nice malt thickness and sweetness. Finish is sticky and some alcohol is slightly noticeable (cleans the palate really). Did I detect a undertone of peat and sea salt? This medium to full-bodied brew has a lush and lively mouthfeel. Outstanding beer! Big hops are very well balanced and it's warming alcohol presence is not overpowering. Highly recommended!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 31, 2009 Big sugary thick nose. Hops and alcohol show up late in the drink, and itís a little musty in the finish. Nice flavors of dark, old fruit, lots of alcohol in the nose. Good carbonation and body. Dark murky deep amber hue with a dark tan head. More alcohol in the nose than Arrogant Bastard, but the overall sugar taste is not something I enjoy. I like AB more than this one.

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
I looked under the sink and behind the comet was an 02 DB that I had forgotten about. Now I wasn't fond of this beer when it was first released. The flavors were overpowering and somewhat harse. Well time does heal and this beer is now absolutely great. Nothing but pure ecstasy on the tongue fore and aft (the side still get a little tingle). Stone did a great job on this one, it held up great. It's near it's peak but I won't know for sure unless I find another one in 6 months!

multiple glasses froma 3Liter bottle the aroma is very sweet, hoppy and has lots of oily scented citrus notes, the head is huge and tan, a very ruby copper color, the flavor was very closely to Old Guardian, very hoppy and sweet, nice and crisp but leaves a syrupy sweet coating to the tongue

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JAN 29, 2005 ReRate 11/7/03 - 2003 Vintage - Crystal clear dark copper with a small tan head. Lacing is nice. Aroma is very sweet and carmely. Behind, but not far, the malt is a big pine hop aroma. There is also some spiciness. Flavor is, quite nice, actually it is awesome! Very complex, spicy caramel malt and hoppy bitterness. Alcohol is almost totally hidden. Body is full and the carbonation is perfect. This is a truly great beer!
(Old Notes) Lots of everything here. Nose consists of massive hops. Dark ruby in color. Good head with nice lacing. Very big body from all of hte malt with an alcoholic bite to it. Pretty much seems like a seriously good barley wine to me.

This is just plain a WONDERFUL beer! Huge hop nose! Massive body, great alcholic warmth, yet well balanced by hoppy flavors. Truly the most arrogant beer around!

To this date, I have tasted only one other brew which is this good, and it is no longer in production. The "Double" is rich, tasty and strong. (I will refrain from other adjectives, for fear that I might go overboard!). You hardly notice that it has 10% alcohol until you have one or two. At that point, you will be wondering if it is still in stock. The only negative is that the production is limited.
